What is that, a Mister Softee truck????? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Thumbsup' />

You wouldnt want the kids around that truck. It was on its side more than it was on its wheels. Tipped over all the time. They'd just flip it back over and drive away. I bet EddieMo08 probably has a pic of it on its side...I know I've seen one, but I dont have one...

Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - Guest - 05-04-2010

Great old photos.......and some info to fill in the gaps

1.) Cambridge is a 1960 Ford/Gerstanslager assigned as Rescue 1

2.) Woburn 1967 Chevy which was bought new for the Aux to use as a Lighting Plant. This was in service till a few years ago!

3.) The photo of the Medford LP was taken on Mass Ave in Arlington in July 1962 for the Firemen's Muster (feel free to post more from this parade)

4.) Melrose is a former USAF structural unit designated 750-A These were built by Ward La France in large numbers for base structural fire protection and had 750 gpm pumps.

5.) Chelsea E-5 started life as Malden Engine 5 earky 1960's vintage ford/Farrar equipped with a high pressure bean fog unit.

6.) Lexington C.D. units is a 52 GMC former Hanscom AFB dry chemical unit converted by the LFD.

Frank,

It looks more like a Chevy/GMC from here.

Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - Guest - 05-04-2010

Correct, cant get used to these new bi-focals yet. Lucky I saw it was red and a fire truck <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_redface.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Icon_redface' />

Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - EMTChris67 - 05-04-2010

WEDNESDAY May 5 2010

Check of my records and confirming info with retired Chief Fitzgerald.....Malden E-5 1961 GMC/Lacey equipped with a high pressure booster. This rig was designed by Malden Chief Garrity.

It ran as the second piece to Engine Co. 1 which was staffed with 8 men at the time. Chief Fitzgerald reports that it did go to the Malden DPW.

I enlarged the photo and it looks like the photo was taken at a parade. At the front is the rear step of a pump and just to the rear of E5 is the front bumper and fender of another rig. Look at the rear step and to the right of the photo is a Chelsea CD vehicle.

Looks like a mystery as to where this photo was taken. Given the apparatus and other vehicles. I would venture to guess that the rig was still in service as Malden E-5 at the time of the photo.
