This was formerly a Fulton County FD Rescue Unit as was Decon #2. They were repainted. I believe they were Rescue #2 and Rescue #23.

Well here is what used to be Station 21 on Buckhead Ave. the lot has been cleared as well as a number of other buildings being torn down in the wake of progress.A new development called the streets of Buckhead is in the works....

GA_Dave - I did some additional research this morning at the Firefighters Hall & Museum here in Minneapolis and found some interesting information regarding the 1958 International 65-footer that became Atlanta FD Ladder 21. In the 1960 Atlanta Fire Department History "Prompt to Action" it was reported that the Fulton County Fire Department opened its first station on June 27, 1931 in Buckland. It goes on to say that the Fulton County Fire Department had four stations that were taken over by the Atlanta Fire Department in the early 40s.
Looking through an American LaFrance delivery manual I also found that Fulton County had purchased a 1944 American LaFrance 65-foot Mid-mount aerial (ALF #8201) delivered on August 25, 1944 that was "sold" to the Atlanta Fire Department. The aerial was put into service as Atlanta FD Ladder 21 on September 8, 1944 (from Prompt to Action). Ladder 21 used that aerial until 1961 when the Atlanta Fire Department shops remounted it on the 1958 IHC chassis (info from the 1961 Atlanta Fire Department Annual Report). In the 1968 AFD Annual report, the 1958 IHC/1944 ALF 65-footer was in service at Ladder 16.

OK, that could explain old Station #21. Stations #23 and #25 were built in 1948 as Fulton stations. The plaques earlier on this thread tell us that. What was the fourth? Could it have been #24 at the airport then known as Candler Field? I don't think it was #22 because it was build with WPA funds and is a twin to #18. There was a single bay station in Sandy Springs prior to the current station built in the 60's (Now SSFD #2). Could it have been the fourth???

Shoe - The book actually listed the location of the four Fulton County stations. When I go into the museum tomorrow morning, I'll try to find the spot in the book where they were listed and give you the locations. I'm not sure what Mack you are referring to regarding Ladder 21.

Yes. Atlanta had two Aerialscopes, with consecutive serial numbers, that went to T-21 and Y-7. T-21 later was reassigned to T-8 when the 1984 ALF TDA's went into service.

Station 21 is now the City of Fairburn Fire Department Station #1

Looks like 22 WAS a Fulton Station. So that makes 21, 22, 23 and 25.

Next up is Atlanta Sta.20 placed into operation on Dec. 11,1926 at 590 Manford Rd. SW also have refer. of 590 Dill Ave SW not sure what year the road changed names,but this appears to have been common around Atlanta during the early years.Sta. 20 is home to Engine Company 20.....
