Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - Marc - 06-27-2010 This may have been asked already, but why did Boston go with KME for the new engines? Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - edburke - 06-27-2010
This may have been asked already, but why did Boston go with KME for the new engines?
Low bidder Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - Guest - 06-27-2010 CrossBronx, I read a document on the City of Boston web site about the new engines and trucks, and that is in fact the case. KME came in at $418 and change for the pumpers and E\-One at $773 and change for the RM trucks. Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - yelrowekim - 06-27-2010 KME had a 5 year bumper to bumper and the new pumps also have Waterous pumps too..asked the KME guy why and he said waterous gave them a 5 year service plan on the pump also...
Quick note on ther Boston rigs Stuphen was the lowest bidder on the engines but were not choosen because they do not a a dealer in Mass. The clostest dealer is near Hartford Ct and I guess it was to far. KMW was the second lowest bidder and has a local dealer in Ma so they won the bid.
Really, Sutphen was the lo bidder? That kind of urprises me, they must be looing for another "flagship" department since Columbus started ordering engines from Ferrara. Would have been neat to see a Sutphen back in beantown! Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - Guest - 06-29-2010 A few rigs from the 8th Alarm in Marlborough Saturday. I took it in on the way back from W. Springfield also.
