If the Fire Act monies went to these needy dept's in the first place then alot of the problems would've been solved..........

Absolutely correct. How many times have we seen SAFER and FIREact grants go to suburban departments in reasonably affluent areas while guys in places like Detroit and some of these rural small towns get nothing.

There's a very good chance that some of these "needy" departments aren't turning in applications.

My department didn't turn in a FIRE grant in 2010 despite having an obvious need to do so. The 2010 application period started right after we got an award for 2009. The city's response was something along the lines of "you just got a grant". Thanks to our FC being an imbasile he didn't or couldn't explain to them it was a different grant period and that we needed to apply because at least half of our SCBA cylinders were less than 2 years from their expiration date and would need to be replaced and that this could be an opportunity to do so for 10% of the cost.

Prince William County DFR recently re-lettered Engine 524. They also replaced the mirrors.

Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - splinterhead - 06-18-2012

What! You can change those mirrors out! Say it ain't so. That's crazy talk. They are part of the frame <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

That would be true if it wasn't for a fact that I know of very needy departments that turned in their apps and lost out to departments in certain states getting funds for 3 year old units because they changed their mission.

[/quote] No. Its a long boring story but to meet the VA OEMS license requirments the operating agencies name must be displayed on the licensed vehicle.

So from what I know Engine 207 the extrication engine was flooded back in the storms last september so that is why it went out of service the other two rigs i have no idea about
