Photographed today (or yesterday) by a friend of mine outside of Zephyrhills FLA on Route 301.

Thanks Joel!

Ah. Saw that very rig outside the fairgrounds at Zephyrhills just last month . . . No idea it was ex-FDNY.

100% FDNY, this was on here a few years back. 1941 Seagrave retractored in 1955 with a new F W D tractor that a few made it till 1970's in some of the slower houses on  Staten Island. Ladder 136 in the photos match up pretty good with the rebuilt trailer.

Relics - jquest6368 - 03-20-2014

The 1955 FWD's were entirely new apparatus - they were NOT tractors used to repower older aerials.  WLF tractors were purchased to repower older aerials in the 40's, and then the 1969 Mack MB's.

Relics - B95MACKFIRE - 03-20-2014

The last wood ladders where the 1941 Seagrave. 1948 the first medal ladders were bought [ post war] that's a 1941 Seagrave  wood ladder on a 1955 F W D  how it got there is our guess , repair ? replace ? mix match of  two rigs ? whatever.

Relics - jquest6368 - 03-20-2014

In 1955 FDNY purchased 25 FWD 75' Tillers with WOOD aerials - registration numbers 380 - 404.  These were the last wood aerials purchased by the FDNY.  The 1941 Seagrave 75' (7) were indeed wood, with the 1948 ALF 85' (1), 1948 Seagrave 85' (1), 1948 Pirsch 85' (1), 1953 Pirsch 85' (3), and 1953 ALF 85' (21) tillers being metal.

Here is a 1941 Seagrave - you can see the differences in the hoist/raising mechanism.

I heard/read/saw somewhere that the '55s were extras from a Chicago order that they didn't take.

Except the contemporary Chicago FWD tractors had fully enclosed cabs. FWD did deliver 12 85' wood aerials with closed cabs to Chicago in 1954. But, from the photo the tractors look quite a bit shorter, or it might just be the angle. I think the two section aerials were identical, though.

Chicago FWD tillers had the older, more rounder FWD chassis, while FDNY rigs have the squared off version.  CFD took delivery of thiers in the 1953-54 time frame.
