This & That from Here & There - chief60 - 07-10-2013 Nope One Airport with ALOT of names! This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 07-10-2013 Quote:Nope One Airport with ALOT of names!Well said! ATL has had many names over the years. It opened in 1926 as Candler Field, named for Coca-Cola tycoon and former Atlanta Mayor Asa Candler. During WWII, it was primarily operated by the military and named Atlanta Army Airfield. The name was changed to Atlanta Municipal Airport in 1946. After much redesign and expansion in the late 1970's, it was renamed William B. Hartsfield International Airport in 1980, after another former Atlanta mayor who was instrumental in the growth of the airport after the war. The mayor during that time was Maynard Jackson and upon his passing in 2003, the name was again changed to the current official name of Hartsfield - Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The locals use numerous variations of those names. There are other airfields in Metro Atlanta, but Hartsfield - Jackson is the only one with commercial passenger flights. The rest are used by private and corporate aircraft or the military and are called by their names: "PDK" - Peachtree DeKalb Airport "Charlie Brown" - Fulton County Airport "Dobbins" - Dobbins Air Reserve Base/Lockheed Aircraft "McCollum" - McCollum Field/Cobb County Airport This & That from Here & There - Guest - 07-10-2013 Thanks Y'all!! This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 07-10-2013 More info on the Atlanta KME's: Other engines will be going to E-1, 2, 16 and 17. They are still at the shops with 6 and 28's new ones. One of the TDA's is also at the shops. The second must still be at the dealer. The third TDA will go to L-1. Two more engines, as yet unassigned, and a foam pumper for Station 28, are still at KME. This & That from Here & There - Guest - 07-10-2013 Quote: I graduated from SLU in 1997. At the time, that station housed a commercial-cab Ferrara pumper and the reserve engine was a Mack C-series pumper. This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 07-30-2013 Today I accompanied two of my sons to the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base. This rig was on display inside one of the buildings. 1953 American LaFrance O-11A 500/900/100F/40CB 6x6 53L6013 This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 07-30-2013 We also stopped on the way home to check out this rig, which we had spotted on the way to the museum. I think this is the same rig I was told about by Mark Carr during the Florida trip back in the spring, but couldn't find on the way home because it wasn't where he said it was. It is located on the east side of I-75 between Exits 146 and 149. Didn't get to stop, but I'll check it tomorrow if I go the back way This & That from Here & There - jbrown9079 - 09-08-2013 Quote:I think I saw where Klein has several apparatus on order. That is correct. 7 Pierce Velocity Pumpers and 1 Velocity HDR. Each station will receive a new pumper. Station 34's current rescue will go to Sta 37 to replace the 1997 E One and become Equipment 37 for Air/Light/Hazmat. Looking at a late November/early December delivery for the pumpers and a February delivery on the rescue. Also, Cypress Creek FD will be getting 3 new pumpers from Pierce some time in February. The 3 Quantum All-Steers will be replace with 3 PUC's on Velocity chassis. Ponderosa FD is reportly selling the last of the Enforcer pumpers. Two of Ponderosa's 2004 Enforcers are now serving the City of Gaffney,SC. How many Enforcers did they have in the fleet? This & That from Here & There - jbrown9079 - 09-11-2013 Quote:They had 3 in the fleet. 1 at each station and a Saber as a reserve. When the current Velocity's arrived they sold the Saber and 2 of the Enforcers. They kept 1 for a reserve which is now for sale. This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 11-08-2013 It has been over three months since my last post in this thread. That is mainly because I have not taken many photographs since then. I have been dealing with some medical issues (nothing too serious) that have kept me from working and will result in me being medically retired, effective December 1. Since I have been on sick leave since July, I have kept a low profile and stayed close to home. With all that time on my hands and having to stay around the house, I decided to do a major upgrade/update to my apparatus photo database. Back in the early days, I wasn't a big note taker, and the database never had a column for the year of each apparatus. I only began recording that in my notebooks about five years ago, so I was missing lots of years. I have been working on tracking down the years of the rigs I have photographed for three months, but have exhausted most of my resources. I now turn to Firepics for help. I will be posting a bunch of photos here for the coming weeks that are missing information, most often just the year of the rig, but there are some that need more. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to jump right in and fill in those blanks. The database has close to 15,000 apparatus in it. There are still about 2500 lacking information. I will begin with some New Jersey stuff. I thank you all for your help. Engine 738, Green Creek, NJ 19??
