Funny that this thread got resurrected this week and now I come across this:

Syracuse rigs up for auction, a 1990 and 1991 KME.

Yes, we sent four of the five 1989-91 KMEs to auction. The 5th one will go just as soon as the 2014 KME enters service - and that will be the end of yellow apparatus on the SFD. We also sent a 1987 90-foot Sutphen tower and a 1997 E\-One tandem-axle heavy rescue. Just thinning the spare fleet of the oldest pieces. As long as a vehicle is in the fleet, it must be maintained as a front-line rig because it could find itself in that role at any time. These units passed the point where it made good financial sense to do this, so out they go.

Do those 2 really only have 2 flashers on the roof as primary warning devices, or is it just hard to see what else there is?

No, there are also red halogen flashers in the housings above the headlights, sharing that housing with amber front turn signals. They alternated with the rooftop flashers, but as fd141 pointed out, the Syracuse-originated eye-level light bar is the main (and by far most effective) front illumination.

Ok that'd explain it, yes I was referring to the flashers on the roof, that setup seems to be retro, even for that time period. Thanks guys!
