There were also three white Predator pumpers for Santa Barbara County.
I believe that the heavy rescue you wrote about is the new Haz Mat 130. I say this because, I was talking to a Captain at one of the other HM stations, and he told me that they had one being built as we spoke (earlier this month). It is not like the other current HM units. This one being a straight framed rig. He was saying that it would be delivered sometime in April or May and on the streets by July at the latest. I was just wondering about any plans for replacing their USAR's, not the Heavy Rescue (Wrecker) that they just ordered. I was also wondering if anyone caught pictures of the rigs in process at KME? How are they working for LA County? Any major issues like the added weight of water tank etc. Our quint concept over here in Baltimore never really worked. We were always trying to figure are we a truck or an engine Los Angeles County Fire Dept - Guest - 03-20-2007
Ok being from the east coast we usually only get to see these tillered quints in the likes of FAJ or Fire Pics. We were always trying to figure are we a truck or an engine
Let me take a stab at this. From what I have heard from the FF's that work with them, the tillered quints (TQ's), I have not heard anything about the the added weight being a problem. I have heard though, that they have had a problem with engine cooling and transmissions. When Q3 (East LA) covers Station 82 (La Canada) in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mts., they have to climb hills to get into the area. The cooling system does not like that. Other issues lately is that some hydrolic lines have been busting under the turntable. They are addressing that now. The new TQ that was shown at Firehouse West in San Diego several weeks ago had fuel pump problems and it wasn't even in service yet. When they do go into the shops, Quints that are stationed by themselves are replaced by a Light Force (Engine & Truck). Quints that are housed in a station with an engine, just get replaced by a reserve truck. Just my observations. hth Los Angeles County Fire Dept - marco17 - 03-20-2007
Prior to it becoming Quint 104 it spent some time as Quint 126 Which I understand 126's neew 100FT KME is already in the shops
Yep, but the good old Crown lives on while it is in the shops.
