Here's a shot of a CSX train crossing a bridge in Rochester NY. This is outside the quarters of Quint/Midi 8, where we were shooting the rigs, when the opportunity presented itself for this shot.

I drove up just as this southbound Florida East Coast set was coming by. I'm not sure who the 3rd locomotive belongs to. The train was going through downtown West Palm Beach.

[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]Then I got a couple of shots of the Tri-Rail (Tri-County Commuter Rail) heading south on the CSX line through West Palm Beach. The train was a lone engine as usual and two cars modern cars marked "Developmental Project Car".

And last for today was this northbound train heading into the West Palm Beach Station. On the Tri-Rail, the southbound trains are pulled by the locomotive. On the northbound trains, the locomotive pushes the train while the engineer drives in the cab control car on the opposite end of the train.

FURX = First Union Rail
I'm guessing Florida East coast is leasing the engine for FURX.

Thanks for the info, NJMedic. I've noticed that FEC's newest color scheme is pretty close to UP's anyway. I wonder if they are part of the same system now.

Why is there a snowplow on the front of that loco? For sand?

That my friend is not a snow plow. That is a "derilect removal device" and works equally as well on errant shopping carts and old 4-door cars driven only on Sundays and to church.

' /> Being in Oregon, snow is the first thing that comes to mind. We used to call them "cow catchers", but they didn't actually catch any. As you say, they just knocked them out of the way. Anyway, nice pix. Thanks.

This unit is a former KCS (Kansas City Southern Railway) GP40 or a GP40-2. The red letters on the side are the leasing company. FURX is First Union Rail. I don't know at the moment the heritage of the locomotive prior to it becoming a KCS unit.

The 1st and 2nd locomotives in this consist aren't in the standard FEC paint scheme either. They are former Union Pacific locomotives FEC bought.

The easiest answer would be, the locomotive you see in the photo was rebuilt from another older locomotive that was already equipped with the snow plow. Obviously Tri rail chose to have it left on. My current issue of Diesel Era magazine features a shot of #817 just released from rebuild. It too is still equipped with the snow plow and the caption says it was a former Southern Rlwy/Norfolk Southern unit. These had the snow plow on them.

No they aren't. FEC and the UP are entirely separate railroads.
