I couldn't find anything about costs.  I know with rescues where I worked before they went under you could save almost half depending on what you did.

Of course you could save even more, but at that point in my opinion your skipping some major work and that just undermines the whole reason for doing

a refurb or remount.

I did find that they are a KME dealer (not sure if that was in the earlier post) and the Navy contract was in conjunction with KME, per the KME facebook page.

It looks like one of the KME/Refurb/Rescues went to Newport, Rhode Island navy base as Haz-Mat 76, FYI I'm just basing that off pics of the unit.

Well I looked into it for my FD's Rescue Engine and the rough was about 200-250k. That includes pretty much a frame up referb/upgrades but the prices can change once they actually get hands on the rig for a true price. Quote was based off a similar unit they did and included the following:
  • Motor rebuild
  • Trans tested /rebuild
  • Rebuild rear
  • Check pump and plumbing replace/repair as needed
  • Generator test/ rebuild or repairs as needed
  • Brakes/hubs/suspension and etc
  • body work w/ repaint etc
  • Scene lighting upgrades
  • Emergency lights replaced/upgraded
  • Replace/freshen up the cab interior and replace all seats
  • Compartment layout upgrades
  • Misc NFPA Annex D requirements
Not really a bad deal considering in my area a replacement rig of this type would be pushing 650-700k. and the plus is no current EPA emissions nightmares. This is a much better price then what the MFG gave us but then again they are in the business to sell new rigs and most don't like doing refurbs or gliders no matter what they tell to your face. Fire Line in Pa., Precision in MO, and Fire trucks Unlimited are the only places that I have seen advertise a compete frame up refurb outside going to the original MFG. Patriot could do it but I have only really seen them do body, paint, lighting upgrades, and such. I'm sure Brindlee would do it as well. Oh and those rescue and hazmat bodies from those Navy rigs are for sale on Brindlee's site and they will refurb/remount them for you. I would say anyone is willing to do a complete refurb but I think no one can touch FTU's turn around time.

Remember the DOD likes to keep heavy equipment for 20-25 years with a refurb/upgrade/upfit at half life which it is clear that the Navy is doing. Little Rock is on a 50/50 (50% new 50% refurb) fleet program and with talking to them they are pretty happy with FTU's work.

It's worth considering but again they need to get hands on the unit that is wanted to be refurbed to get the correct price which in my world would be a bit tough to bid the work per local purchasing requirements. We may try this fall to do it but time will tell. I know many in my area are not refurb/glider fans but considering the increasing costs of new rigs and the low amount of money to replace them it's worth looking into. Get your rig back like new without the newer emissions and at a low cost sounds great as long as it comes back and is reliable.

The work they are doing to College Park E121 is advertised as a "total refurb," and has gone fairly quickly.

What is that big BOX on the rear step?

FireTrucks Unlimited Rehabbed Units. - chief60 - 02-12-2015

Maybe for their wildland gear when they go on deployment??

FireTrucks Unlimited Rehabbed Units. - willman940 - 02-13-2015

That box and the grill made me sad, mostly the box. I love seeing a classic all fixed up.

FireTrucks Unlimited Rehabbed Units. - gibersop - 02-16-2015

The box is a high pressure water piercing system. All new Air Force pumpers have them.

FireTrucks Unlimited Rehabbed Units. - upstatefire31 - 02-16-2015

Thats the pump system I was talking about a few treds back... Anyone know what the advantage is between that and the high pressure?

Thank you for the information. I will be posting more in the next couple of days I have been on call for the last week and have not had any time to post a lot.

FireTrucks Unlimited Rehabbed Units. - gibersop - 02-20-2015

The high pressure system actually pierces metal and concrete I believe. I have seen a video on the system before, but I can't remember where.
