It's a Lockeed C-130Q that is considered a "next generation" fire tanker. A big media day is being held at Centennial Airport tomorrow morning with the Governor and many state representatives in attendance. There's a push from many state officials to contract with heavy tankers this fire season. Engine 44 is housed near the south side of the airport and operates this 2004 American LaFrance Eagle with 750 gallon water tank and 1,250 GPM pump. They're hoping to get a contract from the State of Colorado but right now they're based in California. We have a few USFS tanker bases around the state but most only have SEAT's and Helo's. USFS resources are regularly on the move between locations and states based on severity. It was pretty rainy when you were here which is probably why there weren't any tankers. The base near Boulder at the Rocky Mountain Airport has been closed as of this year. Here are the wildland bases / locations... Ft.
