Question: Do these and the NIH units run regular assignments with Montgomery County itself?

Hungrybus 2012 - Guest - 10-18-2012

Paul,

I'm sure stationslave can answer better than me, but I don't believe that NIH and NIST run off regularly. I know the Bethesda Naval Hospital does. Funny thing is, if your standing at the NIH firehouse. Walk out back and throw a rock, you will hit MCFR Station 20 of Bethesda.

Hungrybus 2012 - chief60 - 10-18-2012

I believe all the Federal Departments run into the county pretty frequently. It has been a while but I remember they were due on the initial assignments to alot of areas around the facilities.

Hungrybus 2012 - Guest - 10-18-2012

NIST engine runs frequently in the Gaithersburg area, including accidents on 270.

The NIST ambo has run off campus in the past, may change due to the new billing program.

NIH tower will run truck boxes in Bethesda, this is why there is no MCFRS TRK 20 or 26.

Both NIH and Bethesda Naval will run on each other's campus.

Bus, did you see the new NIST station?

As a frequent visitor to NIH, it is fascinating to see the growth of this dept., and also to see them turnout and run the narrow streets at NIH.

The Federal Departments that are in Montgomery County are:

750 – Bethesda Navy Med

751 – NIH

752 – NSWC Carderock

753 – NIST

754 – Fort Detrick Forest Glen

Engine 750 runs off base 24 hours a day if needed and it does around 600 calls a year into the County. They recently added a medic to the engine so its calls have increased slightly. In the past year they just began running a medic unit off base on nights and weekends. Medic 750 runs off base a bit but I have no guess as to what the call volume is.

Engine 751 is rarely allowed to run off base as NIH requires one unit to stay on base. The county doesn’t recognize the engine as available except in rare circumstances. Tower 751 runs around 500-600 calls a year. Hazmat 751 runs off base sometimes to assist Montgomery County Hazmat. I would say between 10-50 calls a year for that. Ambulance 751 runs at least 1,000 calls a year off base. Part of the deal with 751 originally I believe was to run the tower off base they had to provide the ambulance too.

Engine 752 doesn’t run a whole lot as this is a slower area in the county to begin with. It is probably around 150 to 200 calls a year.

Engine 753 runs around 550 to 600 calls a year of the base/campus. Ambulance 753 runs at least 600 calls a year. Hazmat 753 never really runs any calls in the county.

Engine 754 runs around 500 calls into the county. The hazmat at 754 never comes into the county.

The engines are basically loaded into the system as the 2[sup]nd[/sup] due Engine within the first due they are located. This adds them to all box assignments and as a first responder if the first due engine is out.
