I see that this engine and other from Bloomington Township have ambulance identifiers on them too - 3-N-61 and 3-N-72. Any ideas why?

A lot of ambulance services either fire or private outside of the Chicago especially rural are like that, unsure why.

I did a little digging and it looks like McLean County has an identifier for pretty much every rig in their county... In this case, they're both "first responders with defibrillators". Also in this search I learned there was a name for this numbering system - The "MERCI Identifier System" - which has apparently been discontinued. In many rural areas of Illinois the medic units use this numbering system. I think the idea was to have unique unit numbers statewide so that in an "event" or even contacting a hospital out of your area they would know who you are.
Where I'm at in LaSalle County, our ambulance identifiers start with "1-M". 1-M-41 and 1-M-51 are the ambulance in Utica. Not everyone in the county uses this numbering. Ottawa, LaSalle and AMT Ambulance (which provides service in Streator and some nearby Livingston County communities) don't use this.
