Ok, I've gotta ask: what does a dozer tender do and what equipment does it carry? Los Angeles Fire Dept - Guest - 06-06-2009
Ok, I've gotta ask: what does a dozer tender do and what equipment does it carry?
Micah, The Tender carries supplies & tools to operate the Dozer. The driver of this unit is called a swamper, and is a mechanic. Hope that helps. Los Angeles Fire Dept - Guest - 06-06-2009 Engine 51;s former Seagrave Photo by Monrovia1. Included might be small diameter hose, gated wyes etc. Los Angeles Fire Dept - Guest - 07-07-2009
Can anyone shed some light on why Los Angeles has no tower ladders or platform type rigs? There was a tragic accident in 1970, when Sn3 tipped while operating, killing a FF. Since then, LAFD has gone with TDAs. Not entirely because of the incident but also due to hilly terrain in several areas of the city. It was found that a TDA can move around a lot easier than a tower/platform. LA Co. tried them in the mid 80s to early 90s, and found the same problems. hth, Los Angeles Fire Dept - maxim - 07-07-2009 Thanks Chief Casey MM <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Maxim, The LAFD tried some snorkels in the late 60's & very early 70's. Usually the crews stash their cots, chairs and other comfort items in that box. They are put on the tailboard prior to them being dispatched. Los Angeles Fire Dept - Guest - 07-08-2009 Post 403 is the old Engine 51, If you mean the the 84 Seagrave I don't think I have any photos of it. |
