Any idea on a delivery date on R1 and L24. I would love to catch them on my next visit in 2 months.

Rescue 1 was at the Firehouse Expo last week in Baltimore so I'm guessing it should be in-service within two months. Of course it always a roll of the dice if any rig is going to be at a particular house at any particular time. Also at the Expo was Ladder 24. .

You might have the Chief of your Department write to the FDNY on offical letterhead and ask them. I doubt if anyone else would get them. Likewise I sent copies of specifications of the apparatus we procured back in 1997 to any department so requesting them, that send such request on their official letterhead, signed by their COD.

Not a drawing but it gives a run down of the specs.

Rookie question here: why does FDNY use aerialscopes for their towers vs. a ladder mounted bucket? Does it have something to do with the durability / strength of a bucket at the end of a scope boom vs. a ladder?

They have tried the concept you mention, platforms on the end of aerial ladders. They perfer the Aerialscope type of tower ladder.

-Also has to do with "protected" waterway...... FDNY "developed" (With Mack) the "Tower Ladder"

Just file a FOIA request. Anyone can do it.

Exactly. Hell, the purchasing departments of most municipalities post their specifications online now so they don't have to bother mailing them to everyone who asks for a copy.

Not sure why anyone would want to keep specifications a secret. They're directions for building a fire engine, not a stealth fighter.
