Original rig to Blacksburg Rescue Squad - 1991. 21 years old. I don't think they would have purchased it from the USMC with that many years on it…. It was there when I moved to Blacksburg in1992 and lived just a block up the street from the station, which is when it first became one of my favorites.

Glen Burnie md had a similar unit as well. It is currently in service in Edwardsville, PA.

I was BLOWN AWAY that it was still in service when I visited the other day. Not only that, but it seriously looked brand new, which is a reflection on Blacksburg Rescue Squad's pride. When my man started it up she sounded like a kitten! Props to BBRS!

I'd guess that was a Marine Corps rig then sold and updated to how it is now.

I believe that all of the Marine Corps rescue trucks from that era were all-wheel drive. (Photographer unknown)

Agreed Hondok...

Andrews Joint Services Base has one with all wheel drive that shows up for the Joint Forces Open House in May.

Unless they made muti years was at the Pierce plant late 1990 to look at our first Lance and there were 20 plus under contruction at that time and all the same 4x4

Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Engine504Driver - 12-27-2012

the Blacksburg rig is not all wheel drive, however the units made for the Marine Corps/Military obviously were, the front wheel hubs and the entire rig sitting higher up on the frame rail is the indication

I did not notice that it was not 4x4. Here is the front of the old NRL-NDW hazmat unit.

The rescue shown in post #4249 is a 1990 Pierce Dash D-8000 that was an "add on" to the USMC order. This rescue previously served at the Naval Research Lab in DC as a Haz-Mat unit and is currently being rebuilt at the Pierce rebuild facility in Wisconsin. When completed it will have a new aluminum non-walk in rescue body and will be assigned to the Naval faciity in Panama City, Florida.

I don't remember the mans name either, but he mentioned that one of their members had a connected to Vienna, and that's how they ended up with the old canteen there.

Andrews has or had a 1996 Pierce Arrow 18' roll-up body rescue, probably the one SFO recalls. In 1996 I missed a photo shoot when J. Floyd, among others, got everything on the base. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Andrews still had the 96 on my last visit. Not worth the hassle anymore since the Air Force went plain Jane. Back went the Air Force 1 Mural was on the side, that was cool.
