Jim,

You mean the new engines? We call the ambulances here Units, so I am just making sure.

Memphis Fire Dept - jim kay - 06-08-2008

Kramer that would be the ambulances I am looking for Thanks.......

If my wife comes up here tonight, I will have her bring the camera. Otherwise, today is my last day before a 3 week vacation through Tampa/St. Pete, Orlando, and Orange Beach, AL. If they are not up by the time I get back I will put them up, but that will be nearly July.

Memphis Truck Co. ???

Truckman Photo

OK - I took this photo in 1996 and I have lost my notes on it. I see a ALLRIGHT PARKING

lot next door to the Station.

Any Memphis guys or other buffs that know what Truck Company and House this is,

please step up to the plate.

As you get older, things start to fade.... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

That would be Snorkel 13 housed at the 7's located at 1017 Jefferson. Snorkel 13 has been replaced by the Bronto and now carries the call sign Truck 13. The old Snorkel is housed at the 52's in Hickory Hill is run as Truck 29 as of Dec 31st 2006.

Dano - Thanks Pal. I was thinking Truck 13, but the street had that rise in it and I was thinking Jefferson was a little more even that that.

Would this ride be the one that was once Truck 1 or Snorkle Truck 1 as you guys may have called her? That would have been a 1969 ride if it is.

For the Memphis folks, does anyone know how many of the larger snorkels are left (not including the squad companies)

I think the snorkel in the photo above is the only "large" snorkel left in front line service. But I may be mistaken.

Truck 29, AKA old Snorkel 13, is the only one left (75 feet). Old Snorkel 2 (85 feet) is rusting on the lot of our old training center waiting for auction. Old Snorkel 16 (65 feet) is now owned by the Sommerville TN FD. If you're interested, two of our thee rescues are 55 foot snorkels and we have a third in reserve.

While at the shop, found the ole International Harvester pumper custom made by the fire department shop back in the 60's or 70's. Will try to get more info on it. Used now for parades.

That was a 1970 IHC CO-8190/Memphis FD Shops 1000/500 that served at Engine 46 when new. It is amazing how good of shape the rig is in for being 38 years old. Here's a Duane Troxel photo of her in 1973.

Memphis Fire Dept - Guest - 08-04-2008

Thanks Steve, Not sure how many times it been refurbed. Notice they did add high side compartments on the Drivers side at some point. Hopefully it will not be sitting outside down there at the shop for long or it will soon start deteriorating. Maybe I can get them to donate to me! lol
