They're on a two week tour over here. NYPD - Guest - 03-19-2008 Ok, everyones photos of St Pats day and watching the live feed at work on WNBC has convinced me that I must attend next years event! Where do you find most of the units, around St Pats or the entire route along 5th Ave to 64th St? BTW any truth to the rumor that Sanitation has a Pipe Band???? THanks for posting! The reviewing stand is uptown outside Central Park in the upper 60's. Otherwise you'll find RMPs from all over the City anywhere they can find a parking spot. Yes Sanitation has their own pipe band. NYPD - Guest - 03-19-2008 When I was in high school in the fifties and marching in the parade all the uniformed services and schools had brass bands. Only the counties had pipe bands. Now there are very few brass bands mostly high school from out of state (and they have as many as 200 players marching and tooting.) Here's a link http://www.nypost.com/seven/03142008/enter...1834.htm?page=7 This shows the reviewing stand located between 64th and 65th streets. (This is for the high mucky-mucks. There are additional stands before and after this street. This is where the NBC portable station is located. It's also the street where NYPD sets up.) You can stand on the sidewalk across from the stand (you need a ticket to sit in the stands and they're easy to get if you're associated with the parade or hard to get if you're not, but they can be had usually with a phone call. This parade started at 11 and finished about four. I'll have to review the program to see how many units were marching. Here's a click of the WNBC broadcast booth showing nobody on the sidewalk at this location (that's 'cause they're all across the street on the bleachers. Here is a link to an Auxiliary vehicle: http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/index....post&p=2567 Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the Traffic agents, school safety officers or auxiliary are sworn police officers and they do not carry firearms.
