Tradition!! Not only that, they open faster, have fewer moving parts, and require less maintenance. We wanted these bad on our new VFD house some kind of bad, but the price prevented that from happening.

Bi-Fold Bay Doors...

A. Severe cool factor.

B. Harkens back to tradition

C. Easily to manually open in the event of a cataclysmic event.

D. Who are they going to call in the event of C above?

Since the county built the building, they weren't willing to pay the additional money, and we (the vollies) didn't have the cash to pay for them ourselves. Oh well, maybe a retro-fit in the future.

They open faster than roll-up and take up less space on the apparatus floor than split doors. Also, its a DC thing...

[/quote]Retro fit will be more costly unless the walls were built for them. Looked into that too. I can tell you having them for 3 years they are less than a 1/3 of what it takes to maintain roll up doors.

Hungrybus 2012 - Chasselber1 - 11-25-2012

Bus, PG Bat. 3 is about to get a new buggy. The county is actually getting a bunch of new buggies in the near future.

Hungrybus 2012 - hungrybus - 11-27-2012

Apparently The PGPD are about to recieve some new Vehicles also,, theres a ton of them setting in the lot over at BWI Airport mostly Ford Exploreres

Hungrybus 2012 - fd1686 - 11-28-2012

Bus,

Reference to Tanker-34, the WFVFD members have been doing some in-house work on that unit, they replaced all the doors with new ones and then had the cab roof repainted, so all of the striping and lettering were removed so the work could be completed. Hopefully the unit should be re-lettered soon. Pat L.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them, I just don't get all the fuss. Then again, I've never been in a department that had them. We do very little maintenance on our doors, just replace a spring every once in a while and our doors get used a lot. Both stations have back-up generators, so power outages don't cause us problems.

Hungrybus 2012 - Chasselber1 - 11-29-2012

Yes, those are the same units Taylor. Also a new GO came out stating all new vehicles that are used for emergency response must be marked. No more un-marked buggies running around. Vehicles in the current fleet are exempt.

Hungrybus 2012 - Fire28 - 11-29-2012

But they dont have to be marked Northern Ems or Duty Chief 800 or Bureau Chief ## do they?? I'm sure im wishful thinking.

Hungrybus 2012 - Guest - 11-30-2012

Hey Bus shoot me a call when you can.

Hungrybus 2012 - Chasselber1 - 12-01-2012

Tim, I'm sure the units that will be used as primary response vehicles such as the EMS DO's and Duty Chief's will be marked as such but it's hard to tell since the county can say and write one rule for the vollies and not follow the same rule themselves...

Hungrybus 2012 - hungrybus - 01-21-2013
