After fellow firepixer Andrew and I introduced ourselves to the guys at the station, a mentally unstable guy came up to us and said he had been assaulted. As the guys at the station were trying to assess him, he kept trying to run out in traffic in a busy South Tryon St. It turns out he was just mad at his roommate for not letting him smoke. After 45 minutes of watching the cops and MEDIC the guy finally got transported to the hospital where he could get the help he needed and we got our pics. If you can imagine it, it probably happens in Charlotte like other big cities. Are they housed with an Engine? Stay Safe, Rick More NC Rigs - BFD1151 - 07-08-2009 The tankers are staffed with a driver only, usually a firefighter riding in the back of the engine company at the station the tanker is assigned. The tankers are assigned to stations 9,21,28,35 and 37. The tankers, however can be used as a backup engine if the companies' regular truck is OOS and could be staffed as an engine company in times of disasters such as flooding or similar incidents by hire-back personnel. Daily responses for a tanker include vehicle fires on the interstate, hazmat incidents requiring large amounts of foam, and of course areas that have low hydrant pressure or no hydrants at all. I phorographed this one and the one from Franklin several years back. I believe Rockwell Rural aso had a Spencer Shops rig.[/quote] Lots of awesome shots here...and had to comment on this historically speaking...Both railroad and music history at that. Spencer NC was the never reached destination for Southern RRs Fast Mail, train # 97 which missed a curve at speed at Stillhouse Trestle, across Cherrystone Creek in Danville Va. This occurred on Sept 27, 1903. The wreck, of course, inspired the balllad that became the first million selling Country hit...The Wreck of the Old 97 The first line of the ballad starts... "Well, they handed him his orders in Monroe, Virginia, saying, 'Steve, you're way behind time; this is not 38 it is Old 97, you must put her into Spencer on time.'" Thought that was an interesting little factoid! More NC Rigs - Guest - 08-04-2009 Once again into the Mts of NC. Trying out my new camera. I was having some serious issues with the old.
