Great job Steve! For 1965 photos, the clarity is superb!



Couple of questions,



Who is Duane? I've heard the name and seen the fine work he has done in the past. Is/was he a firefighter?



As for St. Louis, not to sound dumb! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_redface.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Icon_redface' /> but, I've always wondered as far as open cab trucks.

Were there any precautions used in rain, snow or washing the apparatus?



Were the trucks radio equipped, when did they start equipping them?



I notice no mirrors in some of the backing shots, did they not use them?

The department also purchased a 1949 Central 1000/200 pumper, StLFD #12, which we never saw in 1965.



The department purchased one 1949 Mack 1000/200 pumper, StLfD #27 which was assigned to Engine 18. We actually caught them hooked to a hydrant at two separate fires on our 1965 trip.

Here's another shot of Engine 18's 1949 Mack 1000/200 pumper working. Not the support iron holding up the "Squirel-Tale" hard suction. This is one of the few Squirrel tale suctions that was hooked up to the pump panel side (most were hooked up to the officers side of the pump).

This rig was long gone by the time Duane visited in 1976. In 1965 it was Reserve H&L 26 with a 1952 Mack A-model tractor and 1930 Mack 75-foot spring-hoist aerial ladder. It had served as H&L 16, 11 and 17 previously.

The St. Louis Fire Department purchased a 1953 Central 1000/200 pumper on an Available or Duplex chassis. It was running as Engine 19 in 1965, StLFD #54.

Another Mack tractor was purchased in 1953 to tow a 1935 Mack 85-foot spring-hoist aerial. This rig, StLFD #60, had served as H&L 13 and 8 before being assigned as Reserve H&L 24 in 1965, (but we never saw it).



Also in 1953 the department purchased this 1953 American LaFrance 100-foot TDA, ALF #L-4750, StLFD #20 which was assigned to H&L 13 at Station 40.
