My cent and a half here.... The rims... are these not just chrome covers that everybody else has . My dept has them and they are simply covers for the cosmetic appeal... secondly.... why such large orders without truly testing something .. Take one and let a co. That runs hard actually run it ... As i stated before hoping for some feedback, why is philly not a comperable city to gauge the abuse a rig would take. Boston has not had KME long enough to give a total overall stamp of approval imo.... BUt philly has, they get the same winters and the roads suck .. not to mention they do have companies that do serious running. I go down the club or in the kitchen at work and its the same shit... bunch if guys bitching about who has the beat pickup out... truth is a ford guy sticks with ford.... sound familiar ... Marc,,, I hate that one on the rescue.. but thats me...

These are not chrome covers. They are actual aluminum wheels. They are not simulators. Fdny will not test rigs because they want to keep an uniform presence for maintenance. They will find out eventually who the best manufacture is. If it is Seagrave then that will work. If it is KME or ferrera then the will stick with that. But Mayor Bloomberg is playing money politics and not sensible politics.

Bloombergs issues have nothing to do with accurately putting a particular piece thru quality testing before a multi million dollar contract is signed . That stuff is on a whole different level.... Equipment gets some of the greatest testing due to fdny.. I wont continue... Just tried expand on that and Ithink it it what it is... I m still not sold on the whole chrome rim theory... let me guess.. the outsides are polished down to shine......

FDNY has tested apparatus before. E\-One sent one Hush (it may have been two, I can't remember anymore) to a handful of companies across a few burroughs back in the nineties. I think E\-One wanted in on the FDNY Pot o' Gold. If I remember correctly the Brothers at those houses put em through the day to day grind and they did not fare to well. I think E\-One even put mack engines in them and beefed up suspensions for the city streets. Boston used to love their E-Ones, at least I've been told from guys up there that they loved their aerials the most. Chicago was pretty smitten with E\-One aerials too... for awhile. But, E\-One grew too big and started pumping out way too many rigs too fast.... Like Pierce is doing now. IMHO

When I was appointed we ran with a 1993 E\-One 110' Rearmount that was replaced last fall with a 2011 E\-One 110' Rearmount. The big selling point for us is the jack spread. The A Frame jacks work MUCH MUCH better for us than the H Frame ones. We have 4 Pierce Rearmounts (Originally assigned to Ladders 1, 7, 15 & 18; now assigned to Ladders 7, 11, 18 & 21). I've been detailed up to Ladder 11 on a couple of occasions to drive & while I like the power of the Pierce, the jacks & stick blow! I've been told that KME is making a BIG push to get the aerial contract for this Fiscal Year, we'll have to wait & see.

it was delivered right after 9/11 but it was emergency purchased by FDNY along with the ALF Eagle pumper and put into service very quickly.



There were a number of donated rigs, both from a few apparatus manufacturers as well as rigs donated by community groups, such as the Spirit of LOUISIANA Ferarra pumper and the Spirit of OKLAHOMA ALF heavy rescue and one Seagrave TL purchased by a community (may SC?) but built to FDNY specs.



This Spartan TL was bought by the city.

Didnt this rig also have experimental Independent suspension. It seems to have disappeared after being for sale for years. Does anyone know where it ended up??

I noticed that around the front wheel well is diamond plating and I also noticed this is the pic od the sqaud above as well is there an issue with a Seagrave wheel wells?

While not an E-1 fan in general, my years spent at Ladder 3 in DCFD from 1991-98 we ran 2 E-1's. A 110 foot RM (wrecked when it collided with Ladder 4 in 1995), then after a yr and a half on the road due to no equipment, we received Ladder 6's 1989 135 foot RM. As Brother Skip stated, I thought their jack system was top notch and the aerial was VERY strong, and it flew when extended. I wasn't too impressed with their bodywork and other issues, but giving credit where it is due, I would take that aerial over any FDNY Seagrave or Ferrara.



Either way, it's like Ford, Chevy, Dodge. Everyone has a favorite.. JMO.
