Chicago Fire Department - CFD Adv207 - 06-25-2007 Some rig shots from last Friday's Still and Box at 49th and Racine, TomIL and I made it in late....too bad cause that was his first CFD fire action. Engine 116 was using this spare EMS 4-5-8 Chicago Fire Department - CFD Adv207 - 06-25-2007 Tower 39 was RIT before the Box, Truck 51 then became RIT. Squad 5 in a spare as well. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-26-2007
Tower 39 was RIT before the Box, Truck 51 then became RIT. Squad 5 in a spare as well.
Squad 5 the boys is action...great shots!! Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-27-2007 Can someone explain the numbering system of Chicago apparatus? Is there a significance to the pattern? Some are self explanatory such as Engine 78, Ladder 10, Ambulance 25, Squad 2, Battalion 18. Why are some numbers hyphenated and others not? 5-2-1, 565, 644, 6-4-8. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-27-2007 A non-hyphenated number means it's a spare rig i.e D531. Chicago Fire Department - karl4700 - 06-27-2007 It's amazing to see those 20 year old Spartan/E-ONE Squads still running. Even though they are spare rigs, I think there in service more then the newer HME/Central States rigs. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-27-2007 IIRC The Hyphonated nubers go back to the days of the fire alarm telegraph system. 5-11.com I believe used to have a section of all of the vehicle hyphonated code numbers. Chicago Fire Department - CFD Adv207 - 06-28-2007 KFD, that is what I recall as well, from the days of the telegraph and Joker Stand, each unit had their own signature, such as 3-3-1 for Tower 21. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-28-2007 I still don't understand the numbering system of Chicago apparatus? Is there a significance to the pattern? Some are self explanatory such as Engine 78, Ladder 10, Ambulance 25, Squad 2, Battalion 18. Why are some numbers hyphenated and others not? 5-2-1, 565, 644, 6-4-8. I can understand the tie to the telegraph system, but a lot of this apparatus is too new for the telegraph system. ie this type of apparatus didn't exist back then. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-28-2007 Tradition..... 200 years of progress unimpeded by tradition.. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-28-2007 2-1-21 and 4-6-12 are signatures that i here alot and have no clue who they are... Chicago Fire Department - Ladder 68 - 06-28-2007 I agree and was about to say the same thing Fireman Joe. Ha ha. As for 2-1-21 hmmm. I am guessing maybe the Deputy District Chief for the 1st? Corrections welcome. Chicago Fire Department - Guest - 06-28-2007 2-1-21 DISTRICT CHIEF lST DISTRICT 4-6-11 -TO- 4-6-13 FIRE MARSHALLS OFC. There is some logic to the numbering scheme.
