The retired Chief hated Federal Q sirens so these were purchased without and older rigs had them removed except for their ALF ladder and one Pierce/Ford C pump. The 1990 Tower however was delivered with a Q because the Asst. Chief could not stand the Tower with out one. He got in mega trouble for that stunt. First Tillers ever built by E\-One. E-One Fire Apparatus - MFD76 - 01-08-2009 KCFD Reserve Rescue 4 These replaced Pumper 11,12,31 Tiller Trucks 1,9 and Squad 16,28. They were a cost saving measure to save money on pump tests for the engines and aerial certs for the trucks. Pumper 11,12,31 were at double engine houses and Truck 1,9 had trucks around them. The double engine houses and squads were left over from the failed 1977 Fire Improvment Plan. All together the six two person Freightliner Midi/Pumper Squads 10, 27, 28, 41, 38, 16 were removed and made Rescue 7, 16. These Rescues were glorfied man power squads however 1,9,16,7 carried ground ladders that made them city service Truck Companies. Now three big rescues have been placed in service at Rescue 1,9,31 with six daily staffing and the other Rescues were convered back to Pumpers and Trucks. Sad that Truck 1 the oldest continuous inservice Truck was lost, we also lost the oldest continuous engine Pumper 2. They both prior to 1977 made up Central Fire Station 2 that at one time was also Fire Headquarters and the Repair Shops. E-One Fire Apparatus - MFD76 - 01-08-2009 KCFD Haz-Mat Support 71 before Federal Q siren was added. Haz-Mat is sales tax funded and was created in 1989 after the 1988 explosion at US 71 and 87th construction area that killed six firemen from Pumer 30 and 41. They added 30+41=71 and that is where the number came from a living memorial. Haz-Mat 71 is based out of Fire House 27 in the getto and is Pumper 71, Support 71, Utility 71, and Foam Tanker 1. They have a small first due and respond city wide. This was one of four rescues purchased. E-One Fire Apparatus - MFD76 - 01-08-2009 KCFD Support 71 rear |
