Skip should be making some calls today to find out why. This is probably the last Pierce you'll see in Boston for quite some time, as the new administration seems to want to go back to E\-One, with Engine 29 just placed in service, and 2 E\-One truck companies on order.
I heard it's a water pump......

Just saw Ladder 9's 1990 E\-One rear mount being towed over the Charlestown Bridge. Anyone know what happened to it?
The building to the left of the firehouse housed the Boston Police Department's Division 16 until 1976. From 1976-2007 it was home to the Institute of Contemporary Art, which is moving to the South Boston Waterfront. The building was purchased for $7.22 million this year by the Boston Architectural College, which is located directly to the rear of the firehouse on Newbury Street. The connecting arch between originally led to the stables where both the FD & PD horses were kept. Division 16 closed when the city consolidated into much fewer precincts.
Thanks Skip.

Outstanding information. From the front it appeared to be a super size firehouse. Having the police station next door makes sense. I did see the arches inside.

I hope the FD can remain in the building and not have the college push them out.

Any visible damage to it? The poor thing has been in and out of service for months with one problem or another...

I know Ladder 28, which is the same age, went OOS the other day due to overheating & the Shops put 4 Gallons of antifreeze in our radiator on Thursday. Hopefully the rumor about the 5 new trucks for next year winds up being fact. Also I spoke to a Captain downtown who informed me that the city has applied for a grant to ppurchase two new TDA's for Ladders 1 & 24. We will be getting them ONLY if the grant money comes through.

First Ladder 25's crash, then Ladder 9 is out of service, then Ladder 28- it's starting to become a trend for those trucks to be out of service a lot...

Regarding the potential TDAs: Ladder 1 and Ladder 24 protect two federal buildings, the Charlestown Navy Yard, and the Coast Guard base...clear that it's in the government's best interest to get the grants, no reason not to allow the grants to go through

I used to ride at Ladder 24 when they had the Maxim tiller. We had a struck box up on Beacon Hill a night they were running one of the 'death warmed over' American LaFrance tillers and I will always remember swinging the screw-jacks out and setting them up. I'd love to see them (24...and Boston in general) get another tiller. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Thumbsup' />

I don't know if this rig ended up in Boston, but it was a Mack Demo at the Boston Branch Mack dealer.

Frank B- Thank you for posting the old Mack delivery photos. I just love all the old Macks. They're my favorites.

Not totally unexpected for trucks with 17 years of city use on them. The ladder truck situation in the city is an embarrassment!

It is. We had two small fires yesterday in Brighton, the first one was around 1600hrs, Box 5244 for a 2.5 story wood frame OMD on Haskell Street. We had a small fire on a wooden front porch on floor number 2. The 2nd one was about 0130hrs today, Box 5247, for 92 Eaton Street, candle started a fireplace mantel going with extensions into the wall & ceiling. Rescue 1 was at both boxes and the were driving the Quantum. Thing looks like a locomotive!

I saw the piece last weekend when the company was getting some food shopping done around the corner from quarters. I gutta say its very plain looking. I like the "Brighton" on the front bumper. The side of the cab just lacks something. I think its the patch alone on the door. No lettering above or below. Maybe the patch is too small? I dunno. Just my 'eye'. I'm not a fan of the 'new' color & markings anyway but this one just seems to stand out.

It's the distinct lack of the "Brighton Gold Leaf" that all of the companies out there used to have.
