TEXAS RIGS - 1961MackC95 - 09-17-2013 Quote:There is a Rosie dealer in LBB, DACO Fire Eqp. @ Avenue Q & Clovis Hwy. They always have some of the most incredible vehicles on their lot, they recently had one of Plainview TX's WLF Ambassador pumpers up for sale.Plainview never had a WLF. I hope that Plainview did not trade in their classic 1972 Mack CF-600. I remember when two of these were delivered in the spring of 1972 http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/index.php?showtopic=631&p=498933. I was in Plainview last year, and a couple of the lads told me that the Mack was still the best pumping engine that they have. The article in the newspaper said that they were keeping the Mack but then again, who knows? They disposed of a 1951 ALF 700 and a 1958 Mack C-85 which were bastions of my youth. I remember the Lubbock Macks when they had only Federal 17 Series beacons and then when red and blue "lollipop" lights were added on each side of the beacon. Four of these engines were purchased in 2009 by Johnson County Fire District Two (South County). The previous administration had specced these machines. Two (2) 2009 rigs bought and then sold to another department inside of four (4) years? Something is up. My initial guesses: 1) payment/financing issues; 2) didn't meet specs; or 3) repeated maintenance issues (i.e. a "Lemon Law" type of situation). I hope they are not "hangar" queens. TEXAS RIGS - chief60 - 09-30-2013 From what I understand, there were Cummins motors issues that were finally fixed but they worked some kind of deal to replace 4 of these with new engines that were a more standard engine style. TEXAS RIGS - MFD76 - 09-30-2013 Quote:Rick, Great Question, They had two issues. They had ongoing issues with the Cummins ISL motors. Engine 83 made trips to various factorys a few times. Eventually the problems were repaired and all had been good since. The second problem was these were speced by a previous adminstration with little firefighter involvment. The previous chief also wanted dark ALF red. The high travel height has resulted in damage to the ladder racks a number of times on various objects. Also the top mounted pump was not user friendly for two reasons. First when standing on the top mount your view is blocked by various items mount high on the body and cab. Second the folding steps hung in the roadway and made tender operations diffcult on two lane roads when drafting. They also did not like the tall hose bed height. The fire board and Pierce worked out a deal for the four new engines. The new engines have a much lower hose bed, Also they have beside the tank ladders, with side mount puc pump panel. They have returned to candy apple solid red with black stripe. Also the previous chief would not allow Federal Q2b sirens. The new engines have Federal Q2b's at the request of the firefighters. They have not had any issues with Quint 84 the fifth machine in the 2009 order. It is a Pierce Impel PUC-PAL 75ft Quint. It is very seldom used and will be retained for structural fires, heavy rescue, and reserve at fire house 4.
