More NC Rigs - BFD1151 - 08-11-2009 I'm thinking this one was started by Saulsbury and finished by E\-One because the truck had E\-One plates all over, but had a Saulsbury production #. The year model of the cab would fit too because E\-One bought Saulsbury in 2003 Southport VFD Truck 384 2004 Spartan/E-One Prod #201997 More NC Rigs - BFD1151 - 08-11-2009
Mars Fire Co. in Butler County, PA. recently got a Mack/Baker tower from Washington State. It has the same set up. I'm hoping to get a picture of it soon. Micah, How hard was it to find people at Civietown? I might be making a 4 day trip to Myrtle Beach in the future.
Shoop, I believe Civietown has paid people during the week, but I will have to confirm that. I know Supply, Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle, Oak Island, and maybe Calabash all have paid people at least during the day. More NC Rigs - BFD1151 - 08-13-2009 Oak Island,NC is another place that has a unique setup. The Island itself has always been called Oak Island but the Town of Oak Island wasn't formed until 1999. Before that, the Island was protected by Yaupon Beach and Long Beach VFDs. Yaupon Beach VFD still serves the northern part of the island and Oak Island FD serves the southern part. Also on the Island is Oak Island EMS and the volunteer water rescue unit. All of this is on a 8 square mile island with one bridge that is the only way to get on the island by car. Oak Island has 3 manned stations, 2 on the island and one on the mainland. This one is getting re-numbered as well. Station 3 currently only runs an ambulance and the tower and is on the mainland. Station 2 on the Island ran a 2006 Freightliner M2/E-One rear-mount rescue engine that I was unable to shoot. It's always good to see how the other guys do it. Btw awesome pix. More NC Rigs - BFD1151 - 08-13-2009 Thats it for the beach, here are two from the Charlotte metro area. These trucks have been posted before, but have some updated paint or lighting. Cornelius' tiller was re-painted and lettered up, so I stopped by last week for an updated pic. I am not from the area so anybody that can help it would be apprecaited. While driving to Myrtle Beach from Pennsylvania in early 1980's, I stopped and shot a station's apparatus out in the middle of the forest, possibly along Route 17 or 13. I later remember at the end of the trip stopping at Holly Ridge, NC so it was North of there. They had a red 1976'ish International Cargostar chassis with an unknown brand rear mount aerial device on it. They also had some old military style chassis tankers parked outside during the day. This would have been around 1980 ish. I cant make out the name of the department on the aerial, but the red tractor trailer tanker next to it has the partial name "___DEN Fire on it (like ODEN or something?) If anyone knows of this company's actual name or has any photos from them please contact me asap. I have been trying to id this old photo for 30 years!!! Eric
Eric- That is indeed Ogden, NC, which is in northeastern New Hanover County (north of Wilmington). The truck in question is an International/Bruco with a Memco aerial (I think). Ogden later took off the aerial and turned it into a tanker. GA Dave can probably tell you where it was originally from. Jon U. More NC Rigs - GA_Dave - 08-14-2009 EGAD! Where, pray tell, did I get "Memco" from "Seagrave"? They do both have the letter "e" in them....That's what I get for relying on memory instead of checking in Ye Olde Notebook. Oh well. I found an e-mail address for the chief and webmaster, I'll shoot them something to see if we can get the SN. |
