Station 18 last summer.

History of the Atlanta Fire Dept. - Guest - 03-22-2008

Temporary Station 18 located next to and behind #25-28 Warren St SE. Same architect as Station 36. LOL

Here is Engine 13 sitting on apron this morning with some pretty decent sunlight. And now for the News on Station 13!!

History of the Atlanta Fire Dept. - Guest - 03-22-2008

Heavy Equipment and Construction trailer now on site adjacent to Station 13. Construction also starting on the New Firehouse 13 which will take about 8 months as well.

History of the Atlanta Fire Dept. - Guest - 03-22-2008

They will both be 2 story red brick firehouses with wood hinged doors like the rendering below. Some minor differences between the two.

And rumor has it that when the old 13 is vacated by the city, a business owner in that same area would like to restore the firehouse built in 1921 into a Pub/Restaurant of some sort.

Since most of their runs are to 30 Warren St., it will save on fuel...

Hey Shoe, are they going to start on Station 11 as well? Also i have noticed a tiller being parked at Station 3 recently and wonder if AFD ever plans to place a ladder company at 3. And lastly what kind of apparatus will Atlanta go to when the current lease is up?

History of the Atlanta Fire Dept. - Shoe - 03-28-2008

Mark: Your questions are well above my pay grade! Here are my uneducated thoughts... #3 is the only station where they can house a reserve tiller inside. Occasionally, during storms (or tornados) they will put Truck 3 in service. As far as I know, there are no plans for a Truck #3 even though it could certainly be useful there.

Here are the official notes about the new stations from the Senior Executive Staff Minutes on 3/25/2008

v Capital Projects- General contractors 13. Done erosion control.

v Station 18 – vacated old house and now is living in a trailer.

v Station 28-Clean lot where local contractors have been dumping.

v Station 11- Preparation on construction.

As for apparatus, I have no idea. #36 needs an engine and #11 will need an engine and a truck.

Bad week for Trucks in the ATL!

Early this week, Truck #1 (for some reason) was on a shopping run at the Wal*Mart on Howell Mill Road (???WAY out of their territory???) They tried to go under the parking deck and CRASHED the tiller cab. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/22_yikes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='22_yikes' />

Also: Truck #26 was returning from the Training Center and stopped to help at an accident on I-75/85 in the Grady curve. When GSP arrived and they were trying to merge back into traffic, they were hit by a U-Haul truck. The aerial ladder was bent! Both rigs are at the shop. I'll try to get pictures.

Thanks for the info Shoe! That sucks about Truck 1 and Truck 26. I wish Atlanta Fire Department would go with Seagrave or maybe Pierce. But I am afraid the new Chief may go with Ferrarra because of the Louisiana connection.

My apparatus picks are 1. Seagrave (Marauder 2's) with Roto Rays

2. Pierce (Arrow XT's) with Roto Rays

<img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> 3. Sutphen with Roto Rays

Companies I dont want to see . 1. Ferrarra

2. ALF

<img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> 3. E\-One

4. Smeal

5. Crimson

6. Rosenbauer

I drove by Station 7 and noticed this rig parked on the side of the firehouse back towards the SCBA shop. I think it is some sort of Motor Maintenance vehicle? It looked nice so i snapped a few shots.

You coud be correct, but it might also be a replacement for the rig that pulls the air trailer. The one they have been using is getting some age on it.

Geez Atlanta can't even get the chevrons right, Interesting rig....

Good pics Marc....

History of the Atlanta Fire Dept. - Guest - 06-17-2008

Well remember that Squad 4's chevrons also are backwards, however the new Air 7 has chevrons placed the proper way. It looks like that's just some reflective tape slapped on there and would'nt be too much to take off and re-do at the shop if someone was really picky.

History of the Atlanta Fire Dept. - Guest - 06-17-2008

Oh yeah your right! The stripes are the wrong way.
