Another would be dumping millions upon millions into 2 new baseball parks. I heard that the new Yankee Stadium is costing something like 1.3 BILLION dollars and the new Mets park roughly 800 Million! Damn shame that NYC doesn't have a mayor with the balls to tell them "F you, use your own money!" Instead, they have a rich a$$hole mayor in Bloombooger, who is catering to his fellow rich a$$hole buddies by helping them get even richer.

CrossBronx,

Any truth to the rumors floating around that Bloomy might shut down 46...I saw Them on a list ...Hope not.

once again Fdny fire houses - Guest - 02-03-2009

CrossBronx would know better but that list is BS. Not saying that a company on it won't be closed, but overall that is a bogus list going around.

Like Tommy B said, the list is BOGUS! Someone started it in a firehouse kitchen and it spread throughout the job like wildfire. It's been faxed to all the firehouses and is all over the FDNY Rant website. I hope to god my company isn't on the real list of 16 companies, but who knows. If it is, I guess I gotta find a new home. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Banghead' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/machinegun.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Machinegun' />

AMEN Jay!!! That's why I will NEVER pay to go to another Yankee game ever again. This city is in the financial mess that we are in and the Yankee's have the BALLS to ask for more money to build a stadium when they're about to close firehouses and lay firemen off???? Fund your own damn stadium, or stop paying the new players the millions upon millions of dollars that they just gave them contracts for............I don't know, that's just me though! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Angry' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Banghead' />

The 4 companies closing at night (albeit we've only been closed 2x since Jan 17) are definite. Everything else is rumor.

We probably wont know for certain until mid-May, give or take a few days. The City has to give the neighborhoods a 45 day notice prior to closing any company. So the more accurate list won't probably come out till then.

As Brothers here posted, the Mets and Yankees (well, all sports teams) can spend millions of dollars on overpriced crybabies, demand more money from the city, and get it.

Meanwhile, the working class Joe can't afford these ticket prices, and the firehouse in his neighborhood is closing.

Bloomberg hates firemen. It's a known fact.

People (and now firemen) are 'collateral damage', as I posted more than once. Any money paid off in lawsuits will be a lot less than operating 16 companies.

As much as I do not want to see anyone perish in a fire, I sincerely hope and pray one of these lawsuit will from not be a LODD widow.

An aggressive interior attack has been a tradition in the FDNY (and many depts in America). Seems to have worked for everyone all these years. May be time to change Ladder company operations with a delayed engine Company response. Though a 'risk vs. reward' in a life threatening scenario will no doubt going to happen to a Ladder Company with a delayed Engine Company response.

It is going to be scary. In any city with drastic money problems.

Be safe,Brothers.

It's a damn shame what the city is doing. Definately the Yanks should pay for their own house. They could lay off paying some of those overpriced jerks the millions and not have the highest payroll in baseball and pay for their own stuff. Money doesnt make the team, Steinturd should have figured this one out by now. Good luck to you guys up there and stay strong. Crossbronx, maybe the whole dept. should boycott both the Yanks and the Mets this year!!!

I'm loving 228's house, very classic look

once again Fdny fire houses - Guest - 02-23-2009

Great pictures of the firehouses! I've been to some of these and have spent many days at Engine 201 (The Emerald Isle)...the old firehouse. Here are a few pictures I took when I was in town last fall for 201's annual Vegas Nite fundraiser. This is the new firehouse under construction from last fall, but they have since moved in.
Question for FDNY boys... E 82's house has 2 doors.... "back in the day" how did they fit... E 82, E 85, L 31,TCU 712 and a chief?

Are the bays deep, so they could back in next to each and still get out?
LEFT TO RIGHT AS YOU LOOK AT THE HOUSE -

Ladder 31 (a Tiller) took up the left side

Battalion 27 was in the middle - usally entered and exit through the Engine Co side.

Engine 82 and 85 could be backed in DEEP and "stacked" on in front of the other. There were times when both engines were side by side in the rear with the Chief left outside

Since TCU 712 while it was assigned was a rear mount Mack, the size was CLOSE to that of an Engine... IT COULD Squeeze in, in front of the engines.

All these Companies were VERY ACTIVE. So them being "IN" the house at the same time was rare. Also in talking to a Former Captain of Engine 82 (AFTER 85 and 712 moved to the Tin House on Boston Rd.) he said it was not uncommon to have as many as FIVE other Engine Companies at the house as ACTING ENGINE 82.

Also in later years (73-75) they used an INTERCHANGE program when slower companies "switched" houses for the shift. Engine 82 was covered like this...

Monday - 82 would switch with E295 in Queens

Tuesday - 82 would become Engine 82-2 and Squad 2 would be Engine 82-1 (Not sure if they were called this on Radio but Sq 2 would cover 82's First Due and then 82 would respond after Sq 2 was on a run. (7pm to 1am)

Wednesday - 82 would go to Engine 297

Thursday - Sq 2 again (same as Tuesday)

Friday & the weekend 82 was first due as normal

*The nights that Squad 2 was not at E-82, they would cover and respond from Engine 73.

During the INTERCHANGE rotation Engine 82 (When the Captain was on) only cought 1 Fire while over in Queens. And the Company was doing 1800 STRUCTUAL FIRES with 1600 HOURS of WORK!!!!

The Busiest MONTH he had was July 1975...

210 Building Fires and 205 Hours of WORK

DO NOT GET THIS CONFUSED WITH THE "RUNS and WORKERS" that FDNY talks of now...

in 1974 Engine 82 had 6,427 RUNS!

I think that you're Thinking of Engine 68's OLD firehouse on Ogden Ave. in The Bronx. The old house backed up to 49 Truck's OLD house on Nelson Avenue. They built them a new firehouse and both companies moved in around 1979. Below is a a pic I took of 68's old house, which is now an FDNY EMS station. Second pic is of 49's old qtrs, which later became a Fire Patrol house, and is currently privately owned.
