Trav! TEXAS RIGS - MFD76 - 05-06-2014 Quote: I would assume the roll up door was replaced the traditional fold up lap door due to body build height or space restrictions on streets at scenes. Olathe and Kansas City, Kansas had the same issue. Our 2005 E\-One Reserve Engine 14's highside is extremely hard to reach when open due to body height. Olathe we began to spec split high side lap doors that open horizontal rather than vertical. Kansas City Kansas choose this style with roll ups for three highside doors. Both Olathe and KCK used the split doors on the old Pierce Arrow Pumpers. Thanks for posting Rick TEXAS RIGS - 1961MackC95 - 05-06-2014 Several of the larger cities are on 8-10 year replacement programs for engines and 10-15 years on aerials. Quite a few of the suburbs have quite large tax bases and also use bond programs to purchase apparatus, build brand new stations or replace existing, antiquated stations with modern, eco-friendly stations. When some of these apparatus of the vintage such former Engine 6 in Richardson are replaced as front line units, the former front line unit goes into reserve status where it may stay for another 8-10 years. Currently, the oldest front line apparatus in Richardson is a 2006 E\-One quint at Station 4. I suspect that it will be the next to be replaced. Hope this helps Lindsay D Richardson, TX TEXAS RIGS - JakeF - 05-06-2014 Juice, as Lindsay stated most of us are on 10 year replacement cycle for the Engines/trucks. Tax bases are great, I can't recall anyone around here laying a man off. It just doesn't happen. I heard recently that the average home is on the market 3 days in the metroplex. I can be off two days and house have sold while I was off. Also new subdivisions are exploding. When I promoted last July the dirt work was being done for a new subdivision. We're running calls to houses in there now. |
