Ex-Glenwood Springs, me thinks...

I was up in Leadville last week and caught this out and about.

One mystery for you Sutphen people out there: It doesn't have a Sutphen plate on the pump panel (I didn't get a chance to look in the cab), but it has one that says "A.C.E.S. - Apparatus Compliance and Equipment Safety", with a Colorado phone #.

It has Sutphen S/N HS-3706, but the plate has no information on date. It has a 1750gpm pump but I don't know about tank size (750, I would guess). Also, for a high mountain town I'm surprised that it isn't a 4x4.

Any ideas? I was thinking maybe it was rehabbed after an accident and re-sold to Leadville or something. Any additional information would be helpful.

This one should probably be under the relics topic, but I'll post it here, too.

This sad looking rig is sitting in an equipment lot in Salida, CO.

Ex-Leadville/Lake County, Colorado. It is a 1975 Chevy 70/American LaFrance 1000/750, ALF S/N 2-1-4733, del 5-9-75 (thanks to FDNYTRUCKS).

John,

It's been many years but I spoke with the crew at the Leadville Firehouse about this rig and I think they spec'd it out and bought it new in 2002. They dedicated the Engine to FDNY Firefighter Billy Mahoney, I don't recall the connection though. I think Sutphen was decided upon based on Copper Mountain's good experiences with Sutphen.

They also purchased Lake Dillon's yellow 1991Pierce Arrow tower ladder which is quartered with this engine. Prior to that they ran a slime green Seagrave open cab aerial, not sure what it's fate is now.

Thanks, Eric. Interesting history. I didn't know about the aerial going to Leadville, but I know exactly which one you're talking about; ex-Frisco, I believe. The only other rig I saw was their white/blue Autocar pumper, but was too far away for a shot.

I found it interesting that this rig has air conditioning. I don't think it gets hot enough in Leadville to need it.

Good point about the air conditioning, I can't imagine it gets used more than a month out of the year.

Last I knew the Leadville Station houses the Sutphen, Ex-Frisco Tower, a Ford extended cab brush truck and a county owned Hazmat rig. The Autocar runs out of the all volunteer Twin Lakes Station, I'm not sure what else is there if anything.

I just learned that the Ex-Frisco Tower bucket was struck by a semi and sustained serious damage a few months ago.

Here's a pic of the Hazmat unit with air trailer - http://leadvilletoday.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/joel_1photo.jpg

Here is the Leadville Autocar. I shot it in 2009 at their main station in downtown Leadville.
