It should be noted that 24 Engine's Former Quarters was moved from 3702 Georgia Ave. N.W. to it's current location. The former firehouse was moved to make way for the new metro-rail station. 24 Engine moved to 5101 Georgia Ave. N.W. in May of 1995.

DCpsychwardFD,

Get with Chief Byrne and he can tell ya alot of history of the dept. And the chief has alot of pics to go with it. But the guru of the dept is Lt. Jim Embrey and Lt Bob Drevo also. I was standing by for someone one am and went to T15 and got a history lesson of the dept the 4 hrs I was there.

Ron,

Thanks for posting some of the stations pics. FYI, There is a mural of horse drawn engine on the wall at old E9. Its when you go in the residental side. Very nice looking. My wife had contacted Jimmy and he gave me pics of all of T9's rigs, from the 2nd to present. Very nice!!

Be safe!! And Happy Holidays!!

Lt. Kemp and Tech Aldridge,

Thanks for the information. I will be getting by the former firehouses to take some pictures, lord only knows when the city might want to turn one of them into a shelter or sell to a contractor for condo's. Which is why I want to get a few shots in my collection now.

I know Boston fire has a group of members/former members who meet on a regular basis and hang out and talk history, past fires they ran, and just have a great time catching up, is there a DCFD equivalent?

I appreciate all the help.

The only thing I know of is the FFA. I do know Embrey is a member of that. I learned from Embrey,Byrne,Drevo and Jack Gerhart( RIP). Also the book 100 yrs of Glory, If ya can get your hands on one! They are very hard to find. Hope this helps some.

Any recent pictures/updates on the renovation of the E-10/T-13 Firehouse? It seems to have taken a very long time.

Thanks

So, what you are telling you came in when the Trucks were lettered A, B, C, D, etc??? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />

Thanks Coz. I remember seeing the Truck there and running from the Threes. I knew that SP Kelly, I know what the SP stands for but the others meaning are too, Stupid Person is one, you know all the others, had reduced all the companies in the DCFD and had closed the Threes then. It didn't make sense then and still doesn't.

I may have known that it is now oS but had forgot it.

About a dozen years ago or so there was an excellent feature in the Washington Post describing how the firehouse at 731 R Street NW (formerly Engine Company 7 then Engine Company 4)had been converted into a private dwelling after Engine Company 4 was relocated to their new station on Sherman Avenue. The former quarters of Truck Company 4, originally Truck Company D, has been converted into a private gym doing business as Primal Fitness. I stopped in there last spring to tour the old place and sadly, there is very little left besides the bay doors that would identify the structure on the inside as a fire station.

Stay safe brothers.

Old E4 was bought by a Art dealer, who was using the apparatus floor to show his collection. He had told us that he was using the upstairs as his living quarters. This was back in 2001 or so while we were doing a school inspection across the street.
