This was a very unique rig. It was originally painted yellow the lime green now RED. Also it was made by Amthor's with an American Barton bumper pumper pump. I believe Amthor's was listed as New York State on the build plate. Any idea about this rig???

Lawrence, Kansas Fire Department

Lawrence owned three 700's over the years a 1947 open cab 100ft Ladder, 1951 open cab Invader pumper, and this 1955 canopy cab Empire pumper. This pump was recently donated back to the Firemen of Lawrence by a retired Fire Lieutenant. This rig left the Lawrence roster in 1992.

Amthor's is a large tanker company which specializes in propane & oil delivery trucks. This truck was probably build in Walden, NY, where their HQ was until 1992, and they operated a shop until 6 months ago. Their website claims they are the nation’s largest and most diverse manufacturer of truck mounted tanks.

Fairmount Township is located in Basehor, Kansas in Leavenworth County. They answer from two fire houses. They are combination department staffed Monday-Friday with three part-time firemen at Fire House 1. Volunteers staff the evenings and weekends. The fire chief in 1991 decided to switch to solid white rigs from the preferred RED. The same chief decided NO federal Q sirens would be allowed. He is no longer chief. The fleet is currently still mixed with red and white. In 2000 they purchased a Demo Smeal-Spartan that is white over red. The members are split between white or red for the new Engine. So we will see what color it will be.

IMO Fairmount started red so they should stay red. Although if you have white. The white on white strip looks the best and makes for a very clean sharp rig with gold leaf. I do believe there are only three colors for the fire service Solid RED, Solid White, Black over Red.

Had our county Band-Aids and Babies dinner 2010 tonight at CFD2. So I had my chance to sneak out and shoot some photos while my fellow Engine-men where chowing down on burgers and brats.

Here is the finished Ladder sign. Consolidated Fire District 2 has a great working relationship with Johnson County Fire District 2 and 3 IAFF Local 1371. Also below is the HS number for the new Truck.
