I was on the way home from Chesapeake last week, coming into Wakefield, when I saw this beast swooping in low over 460, shooting touch and goes at Wakefield's airport.

Needless to say, there was no way I WASN'T going to stop.

MH-53 Sea Dragon, I believe...

I was loosing the light fast as i shot, but I got this shot as the bird was outbound...

This is one BIG aircraft! The airport manager told me they train at Wakefield regularly, and he regularly has to re-secure various and sundry items after they finish.

Photone,

Yo are correct, this is a MH-53. The sponson is much larger on the MH version of the 53. The USN uses these as minesweepers, but they can also haul a large amount of people & gear. As for the rotor wash, it is truly tremendous. My first day working on the flight deck of the USS Saratoga I learned to respect these aircraft.

Here's a photo of a T-34B Mentor and a SF.260 flying into St Augustine, Fl airport that I took from the back seat of the lead T-34B.

Now see, you learn something new every day. I never knew the P-51 (later the F-51) came in a 2-seater version.

Actually that is a Korea-era version LOL!! Excellent shot otherwise!

"The US roundel added a pair of white bars during World War II, becoming the famous "Stars and Bars" insignia; a red bar bisecting the white was added in 1947 when the United States Air Force became a separate service."

Not sure what version of Corsair, but you might be able to find it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F4U_Corsair

Actually that is a F/A-18C Hornet. The F-16 has 1 tail and 1 motor, plus alot smaller than the Hornet.
