Fairfax County VA - splinterhead - 07-26-2009

Well lets keep doing and saying something about it. Just because a small minority want something besides the roto-ray can't last forever. You can only screw over morale for so long. Lets hop on Arlington's new Pierce contract and get Arrow XT's with roto-rays on them.

Fairfax County VA - Guest - 07-26-2009

When did Arlington decided to go with Arrow XT's? or do you mean Alexandria?

Arlington is still an E\-One customer, unless a major change of the poles happened overnight and North is now South. I believe he is talking about Alexandria, they went with the Arrow XT for Truck 208 and will probably continue along that path with any new Engines. Perhaps he was talking about MWAA as well and their shinny new Arrow XTs. Personally, I think both are acceptable chassis from what I have heard from multiple users of both.

Well, well, I gladly give someone credit for having information that I didn't have.

Indeed South is now North, the poles did switch overnight. On June 11th, Arlington County signed a multi year order with Singer for Class A pumpers, heavy duty rear mount aerials, rear mount aerial towers, and heavy rescue squad vehicles. No information on the number in the first year, just the price and 8year guaranteed buy back figure. I am assuming that they will be on the Arrow XT chassis since splinterhead mentioned Arlington.

Contratulations to Alington County, I can now begin to shoot rigs in Arlington County again when I am in town, starting 210 to days from June 11th. :-)

Is Arlington still running two Heavy Rescues or just one? I'm glad to see Pierce making its mark up there finally.

Fairfax County VA - dawson_fire - 07-26-2009

As per a Pierce salesman Arlington has purchased 5 Pierce engines, not sure about chassis but think they are Arrow XT's. He said they had some issues with E\-One but a big part was no dealer in the area-just repeating what I heard, can't tell you if it is true or just hearsay...

2 although with the poles changing maybe that will change too. Seriously, I still belive they are only running two. If that is changed, I am sure somone will chime in.

Fairfax County VA - Guest - 07-26-2009

Only two heavy rescues at Stations 4 and 9. They also have the Reserve. I guess it is a good thing I went down and photographed the department. I had no idea they were going to switch over.

I saw that Arlington also awarded a bit with Singer for ALS ambulances but I can't get that document to open so all I know is that there is an award, no further info.

Patrick, rig replacement is a good thing, it gives us more to shoot. :-) You did have good timing with your trip to shoot the department though.

FYI, I will be in NOVA the second and third week of October and I plan on a fairly serious shooting schedule and opposed to last trip in June. Keep that in mind in case you want to come down for a day and team up.

You know what would be really interesting? Is if someone could find the contract Fairfax signed for the Velocity abortions, and post them on here. I would love to see the price difference between the those and the Arrow XT chassis.

Only thing I saw was two points under the Amendments link where the Velocity showed an increase of $16,000-$17,000 dollars. I am sure I missed something though as my eyes went crossed reading over 26 pages of fluff. Have a read and see what you can see.

If the link does not work, just search the register. I put in Singer Fire Apparatus and and found it with no problem.

Fairfax County VA - drfeelgood - 07-27-2009

Anyone know where you can find the bid specs for both Arlington and Fairfax?

Fairfax County VA - Guest - 07-27-2009

"the Velocity showed an increase of $16,000-$17,000 dollars"

To all the Pierce people out there is this normal. The reason I ask is because on our specs for several new trucks there is no charge to go to the Arrow XT. Is this because the specs are for a Velocity and not the Arrow XT or is the dealer jerking us around by not giving us a discount if we go to the Arrow XT.

Fairfax County VA - Ladder 68 - 07-27-2009

May not be the dealer....could be the factory pricing...happens all the time down south.

The Velocity is considered a step up from the Arrow XT. Velocity is the top of the line Pierce chassis.

Fairfax County VA - splinterhead - 07-28-2009

It just amazes me that a top of the line product could receive so many complaints, and still be considered top of the line.
