A perfect spring day on the way to St. Louis back in the '80's! My first, and only, encounter with the powder blue apparatus at Ellettsville. The Midwest logo really jumps out at you on this one!
You haven't been back to Ellettsville in 20 years Steve?! I'm sure you've noticed(on IFT) that their fleet probably hasn't changed much since the last time you were there. They do (finally!) have a new HQ and they should have a new Pierce MM tower very shortly. It would be in already if it wasn't for the special paint job! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BananaMan.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> BTW did you get a pic of the 1965 Ford C/Midwest pumper? This rig was seen several times in the Firehouse Expo parades. According to the folks from Kenmore, it carried only 300 gallons of water. I wonder how it ended up in Texas?
I first saw this rig in the city yard in Bells, Texas on my way over to Sherman, Texas. It was parked against a fence so I came back to shoot it a couple weeks later. On that trip, I drove by and no one was at home at the VFD, so I went on the Sherman again. When I came back it was gone. I saw some guys standing across the road so I pulled over and asked them where the truck had gone. One of the men said it went back to Denison. The VFD in Bells was looking to purchase it, and the guy who owned it came back and got it. (At that point, I noticed the person I was talking to had a Bells VFD jacket on and talked him into puilling the 1973 HAHN out for photos....) So again I made a trip - this time to Denison where I shot the rig outside a military surplus store. The owner was away, but his wife gave the key to the gate and I went in and shot it. The rig did have a Glen Burnie, MD property ID Sticker on it - maybe it worked for them a while?? From what I hear, this owner is an eccentric. A few months ago he had a helicopter parked in the same place the fire truck was. They say he went out and started the helicopter up and tried to fly it - crashed it about 50 yards away in the middle of one of Denison's busiest streets.... It's most likely that Westbrook purchased something to place on this rig at a fire flea market which formerly belonged to Glen Burnie. The Glen Burnie VFD, which is Anne Arundel Co. Sta.33 did have a 1970's WLF ultra-vision 4 door cab rig that was owned by the county, but not the rig pictured here. Thanks! 85-05 went to Hempstead, NY. 85-08 is the correct number for the old Kenmore rig. It could have been a typo on your list. I checked my list and the other list I got from Mr. Gergel. I don't think this was a LAFD rig. Ward LaFrance Ultravision - firephoto - 04-18-2007 Looks like it may be owned by Joe Ortiz, retired from LAFD and he owns dozens of rigs that are used for movies, TV, parades, etc. Scott Ward LaFrance Ultravision - Guest - 04-18-2007
Other side. It also looks like you can still see where the Department's name was on the door.
