All in all, I would say it was a successful day. I was able to get most of the units I wanted to. Also I referred several of the FF's to Firepics. One of the Crestwood guys said he has seen some of my pics of a house fire, but he could never find the site again. But I pointed him the right direction. I thought it was pretty cool that he has seen some of my work. I tried to get Des Peres Public Safety, but they moved up for a fire in North/Central County. The fire was down the street from my brothers work at Code3 PSE. I passed the location less than an hour before, dropping him off at work. The St. Louis Metro has a metro numbering system. St. Louis County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County use the 4 digit numbering. St. Louis City and the City of Brentwood are the only departments that do not follow this numbering. The first 2 numbers represent the department. The 3rd is station number. The 4th is type of apparatus.
0-Engine
1-Second Out engine
2-Ladder Co.
3-Tanker
4-Rescue/engine
5- Quint
6-Rescue Co./Squad
7-Medics
8-utility/brush
9-utility/brush/marine
An Example is:
Metro West 3354.
33- Metro West
5- Station 5
4- Rescue Engine
Also, no department in the area has more than 7 stations. 8 or 9 in the station slot represents reserve units. Its a very nice system. So departments number their quints as truck co. Im not sure why on that. I hope I made all of this make sense. If you have another question about just ask.

Great shots Phil. Any idea on what Metro West will have for a spare ? I thought it would be the Sutphen pumper but I guess not with it being for sale. Does 3392 usually run out of Sta #5? I havent been over that way in a long time, last time I was 3392 and 3346 were jump manned by the crew at 4's, just curious.

With 3392 being a reserve. Its just housed there because there was space. I dont know what they are doing for reserves, they have that Sutphen, plus the old 3342 or 3335. I dont which one it is, but one of the old quints.

First of all let me say thank you so very much for this thread, and what a tremendous job you've done.
As a FF for St. Louis, and a buff, this is truly a treat that words can not express.
How strange that a huge protion of those companies and even many of the firehouses are no longer in existance. I am attempting to compile a list of abandoned firehouse locations, what companies were assigned there, and if they are still standing. I have found a few, but I have recently lost my old rosters.
It is also pretty cool to see some of the firehouses that I have either been assigned or "subbed", and what they looked like long ago and what was housed there.
IE..An interior shot of the 34's shows a straight staircase on the north wall of the apparatus floor which is no longer there. Hard to tell how far back that is, but I know there is a pole on that side of the house.
And of course my 1st assginment...Eng 7! Pretty cool to see what companies used to be there. But it was a noisy place at one time!
I'm trying to go thru some of my info, and locate what houses some of the interior shots were taken.

Excellent history of St. Louis! I am waiting to see if anyone has the mid 70's to the change to quints to post here as I have the department shot after the changeover in 1988 or 89. I am also going to do some shooting this weekend here in STL to update my roster of rigs and get a sample of the current fleet.

This was "Station 40-41" at 921 Delmar Boulevard, home to Engine 40, Engine 41, H&L 13, and Hose 1, when I first visited St. Louis in 1965. St. Louis had a few fire stations at the time that were identified with hyphenated double numbering. St.Louis "Station 5-25" at 2123 N Market was similarly identified.
