F.D.N.Y. - Russell - 02-15-2007 Here is a link to the Seagrave Marauder II - http://seagrave.com/MySeagrave/ContentMana.../MarauderII.pdf http://www.Seagrave.com/ F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-15-2007
I herd FDNY orderded 69 Marauder II 2000gpm split cab pumpers, and 30 Scopes. Can anyone confirm this?
FDNY is gonna run 2000 GPM engines now? F.D.N.Y. - Russell - 02-15-2007 That's the word. All 2000GPM pumps. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-15-2007 Yeah that is what I was asking, if whether they would be the ladder "platforms" rather than the scopes that they run now. Sorry for the confusion, I just refer to the platforms as tower ladders and scopes as scopes. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-15-2007 I have a question about the Aerialscope, because we only have 2 here in Kentucky that are in service, which one is an old FDNY rig anyway. Is the aerialscope easier and quicker to set up than conventional mid-mount towers, or what's the reason behind them? With the types of jacks they have, the rigs seem like they're easier to set up on the fireground. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-15-2007 Maybe this can clear some confusion up. A Ladder Tower is an Aerial with a bucket. It can be a rearmount or mid-mount. Example is Pierce makes both. A Tower Ladder is a Bucket attached to a boom that has only a escape ladder and has a pre-piped waterway. This apparatus is a mid-mount type. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-15-2007 Here are a few from E45/TL58 located on tremont ave., bronx,ny. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-15-2007 nice shots F.D.N.Y. - apb2148 - 02-15-2007
an Aerialscope is basically a boom/crane structure with a platform on the end of it. The aerialscope has a small escape ladder on the boom that is to be used in emergencies only. Now a true Tower Ladder is basically a regular straight Ladder with rails on it that leads to a platform. While I was at Seagrave last summer there was talk that the union in FDNY was wanting to require the true Tower Ladder so that the firemen had a true ladder to climb/escape from. I havent heard anything else on that subject.... FDNY cabs have been fixed cabs in the past. The J Series Cab and the Commander II chassis have been the choice in the past. The Marauder and the Marauder II are available in split tilt and full tilt options which will be a big change in FDNY. As for the new Marauder II chassis it has a few major changes. The standard cab is 8 inches longer and two inches wider than the original. The windows on the doors are bigger as well as bigger doors allowing for easier access to the cab. The new Marauder II also will house the 2007 emissions engines which are all bigger and require more air flow for engine cooling. That is why the grille is so much bigger. The interior has changed as well allowing for some additional leg room. These are just some of the changes. just my two cents worth...and by the way... I am happy to see Seagrave is still going strong in FDNY
AMEN!!!! F.D.N.Y. - R1SmokeEater - 02-15-2007 Quote"Is the aerialscope easier and quicker to set up than conventional mid-mount Towers............" - From my experience, Yes they are ! We have had 3 Aerialscopes (down to 1-spare) and switched to ALF MM Towers- the Scopes were pretty simple- pull up and the Chaueffer drops the jacks, and you're off !! The new towers have so many bells, lites , warnings, and whistles and now 2-men set it up <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Quote"As for the new Marauder II chassis it has a few major changes. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-16-2007 FDNY gus are not shy. Hey! - There's a snow plow! F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-16-2007 Uniformed civil servants help each when the need arises. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-16-2007 Phil, nice shots! F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-16-2007 And they are appreciative! (This is what I'd do back in 1957 and in college - I'd get a DSNY snowplow and plow between the hours of 6PM and 6AM. I was paid the magnificent sum of $20.05 for the twelve hours! But back then beer was a nickle a glass. And in many places you could get a free sandwich with it.) Phil Bklyn. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-16-2007 hehe, nice pics. Heard about the dayly search for hydrants. Does anyone know if they have to do it while their shift or are they ohers which are not in shift? F.D.N.Y. - Marc - 02-16-2007
hehe, nice pics. Heard about the dayly search for hydrants. Does anyone know if they have to do it while their shift or are they ohers which are not in shift? [/quote We carry shovels on all of our rigs. If we see any hydrant covered by snow we dig it out. Or if Sanitation is nearby with a plow (such as with these lucky Brothers) you have them plow it out. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-16-2007 Well honestly, that is something you dont see around here. A snow plow mounted on a Garbage truck. Nice to see everyone playing nice with each other though F.D.N.Y. - Marc - 02-17-2007
Well honestly, that is something you dont see around here. Sanitation guys are all mostly good guys who usually go out of their way for us. Whether it be coming by and plowing off the apron of the firehouse, or taking some large garbage from the firehouse, they usually do the right thing. And ALOT of them also have family on the FDNY. F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 02-19-2007
hehe, nice pics. Heard about the dayly search for hydrants. Does anyone know if they have to do it while their shift or are they ohers which are not in shift?
The home owners with hydrants in front of their houses are supposed to keep the area clear, however many homes owners don't want to do the extra work. And as crossbronx stated we do have shovels on our rigs, and we also will go out after major snowstorms and dig them out. The city will not pay off duty guys to do this so it is up to the on duty guys. |
