I have it as being owned by Rick James of State College, PA.

[/quote]

Mike, the truck that Rick James owns was at National Tube in McKeesport. John Racke bought that truck and had it until ne died in 1997. His wife sold it to Rich Fowler from Shaler Twp. Rich sold it to Rick James. Did it start it's career at Irvin, then transfer to National Tube? It very well could have. But John told me that it was at National Tube.

dont know. I had that serial number owned by a PO in State College, PA. Rick is the only one I know in State College that owns a rig. Now that we have a serial number for the Irvin Works rig, we might have a match. I will have to shoot Rick an email.

Maybe it started out at Irvin and when they replaced it, it went to National Tube. I know National Tube had a C-Model as well.

Irvin works are in west mifflin (founded in 37?). They had the B models but i dont think they had any fire equipment prior to that. Irwin works (as the truck is lettered) im not sure where they were at, let alone any carnegie-illinois works were.

Keystone State Relics - e290l103 - 01-03-2011

it is possible that Mack made an error on the letting of the rig? the mill at West Mifflin, when opened in 1938 was called the Irvin Works of the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corp(as the rig is lettered on the hood). Carnegie-Illinois was a subsidiary company of US Steel. I would think they opened the plant with a brand new rig.

There were so many steel plants out in that area with their own departments. It would not surprise me if there was a plant over in Westmoreland County, near the town of Irwin.
