Also at The Plains was this neat brush truck, a 1963 Ford 350/American. 500/285.

These last two are from Gunston, Virginia which is Fairfax County Fire Station 20. They began as a volunteer organization and eventually turned over their operations to the county.
This is a nice piece of history - Gunston's first fire truck. I have seen two different dates listed for this truck - 1940 and 1946. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am also unsure who built the body (Oren, Howe??). 350gpm.

Gunston's second fire truck purchased was this neat 1961 Dodge 500/American with a 500/500. It was later sold/donated to the Blue Ridge, VA VFD located in Clarke County Virginia.

Let me try that again, what I meant to say was that I saw that pumper out at the Fauquier Landfill in September 2004. They were using it to pump out the leachate (trash juice) collection pond. You can see the three inch hose in the foreground. Looks like they gave the pump a good work out every week or so. I've included a zoomed in shot. I think its the same truck as you posted.

Ah! The 49MPH wonder as it was affectionately known...this rig was only kept in this configuration for a few years, and photos of it are very rare. The rig was eventually refurbed with new bodywork, the dry-chem tanks were moved to a pickup truck, and it was infected with lime disease. It came out looking much more like a standard pumper. Jerry might be able to give specifics for us.

' />[/quote]Also known to blow a head gasket at the drop of the helmet in the Waukesha too. When it got cut down and infected with Lime disease, it got a heart transplant from Detroit Diesel. Here she is back from Pierce at the shop. First time uploading, so hang on!

I'm sure any VA apparatus buff would agree that Staunton, VA. has had a unique apparatus fleet through the years.

Note the rear fender design, it's an Oren trademark. I can't confirm that the Chevy chassis is a 1946, but it isn't a 1940. The 1940 had a narrower grille.

This photograph was taken in 1986, and shows a new Henrico color and rehab by Pierce in 1978. I believe this was sold to South Boston, Virginia.

Mike, this is the same truck in the previous post. This was the Division's first aerial ladder truck, and the only mid mount ladder. I believe its the first 100 foot ladder made by Grove, and there was a picture of this ladder with a Volkswagon beetle hanging off it floating around. It was also delivered as a single rear axle truck, and after a traffic crash, it came back as a tandem axle. It was delivered with a 549 cu in V-8 gas motor, and rehabbed in the 1980's with a Detroit Diesel V-6 and auto transmission.

I would sure like to see the photo with the VW Beetle hanging from it. Interesting about the single rear axle, then tandem axle. Thanks for the confirmation that they were the same truck.

I forgot about this one. It was shown in an old issue of VFN I have. Timberville sold it to Bergton, VA, but their roster doesn't show it as still being there.

I also have information on the back of my photo of Timberville that it had been sold to Bergton. When I visited Bergton last year, it was not there. Bergton no longer has it.

In a earlier post on this thread, I showed you the "new" Tower 19 of Loudoun County at the Dulles Safety Center located in South Riding, Virginia. Tower 19 was established in October of 2007 and had a Pierce Dash 95' on order. The local Pierce dealer (Singer) provided Loudoun County with a loaner aerial truck to be used until the new Tower 19 was built and placed into service.
Here is the loaner (as posted earlier). My understanding is that this Pierce has been returned to Singer.

You will see "619" on the Tower. For those not familiar with the area, Loudoun County has the prefix of "6" before the unit numbers under the Metropolitan Washington D.C. Council of Governments (COG). Within Loudoun County, this ladder truck marks up as "Tower 19". When running into other jurisdictions (Station 19 often runs into Fairfax County), it would mark up as "Tower 619".
