they did not list them as 1980's, but almost all of them were built in 1980, including this one.

well what was the FDNY SHOP number? a 79 or 81?

the shop number was of a 1979. that was when they called the rig the year that the money was appropriated in the budget. if a group of rigs was budgeted in 1979, they were called 1979's even though they were not built until 1980. the 2 1985 Mack MC rescues were called 1985's because the money was allocated in the 1985 budget, but they were not actually built and delivered in 1987. the group of 80 American La France pumpers were allocated in the 1980 budget, but the first one was not actually delivered until 1981. the 10 green Macks had shop numbers for 1981, but they were not built and delivered until 1982, the money was allocated and the rigs ordered in 1981. the 6 HP Macks that the city called 1983's were not built until June 1984. and so on... this practice is no longer done and for the most part the shop numbers now are indicative of the year the rig was delivered.

Ok so what was the Shop Number??? MP79xx? Where was the rig assigned? I do know that there was a time the rigs were numbere for the year the contract was made - NOT delivery. I was trying to find out the year it was ID'ed by FDNY.... I dont have lists by they year 1980... was trying to clear that part up....

These are pix from the Wounded Warrior Project 2008. Two Macks (L and CF), a WLF, and an FDNY Seagrave. The allies (Brits) wounded in Afghanistan rode in on this rig. There were 35 participants (plus their families) this year.

Sunday morning I was able to gather together our British allies for a group pic. The little girls are part of the families who host these guys when they're here in NY.
The whole group plus the guys from FDNY and NYPD who help out on the Friday morning fishing trip.
This is the fourth year for this program and it looks like it will be held again next year.

The chassis was purchased from J.C. Moore and was from McDonald, PA. When this truck was put together, it was the first light and air in the Allegheny-Kiski Valley. It was replaced by a Mack CF from Fox Chapel, PA.

The white engine was originally owned by the Brentwood Borough Fire Dept. It was sold to Hickory and painted white. It is presently owned by Fred Norrick from Lower Burrell, PA. Currently this truck is in storage with a bad engine. Fred has an engine to put in it. This truck has been at the Pittsburgh musters until the problems with the engine.

The Mouunt Pleasant snorkle was refurbished by New Lexington. It is to be replaced by a 1999 Sutphen 70' mid-mount tower. The Sutphen was just purchased in the last couple of weeks. What will happen to the snorkle is unknown at this time

Not true. Engine 3 was ordered in 1969 as an open cab due to the excellent visibility, especially in the downtown section of the city. The committee liked the open cab concept since 4 out of the 6 engines at that time in the city were open cabs. The engine that this engine replaced was a 1949 L-Model Mack and was a true open cab with no doors and roof. The committee traveled to Ford City, PA to look at there open cab CF, which was a 1968 and the 5th CF open cab made. The New Kensington rig was delivered in October of 1970. It was refurbished in 1991 by New Lexington and the committee at that time elected to keep it as an open cab. Today it is still in front line service and answers approximately 150-160 alarms per year. My father was on the original committee to spec it out. He was the Asst. Chief at Station #3 at theat time. When it was refurbed, he was the city chief. It answered aan alarm today in a snow squall. Yes it was cold, but the members still love their open cab.
Mack onlt made 13 open-cab CF's. 12 engines and one aerial that went to Riverdale MD. New Kensington's was the 9th open-cab made.

Bolivar just recently purchased a 1989 Mack CF from the City of Dover DE. It is currently undergoing some modifications and should be in service within the next 3 weeks. It has a 2000 gpm pump, 1000 gal. booster tank and the body was made by Pierce. It is a very sharp rig and was in excellent condition. It will be great to see those two Macks running in Bolivar.

Great shots of a special event. I have seen and run with some of these Wounded Warriors in the Tunnel To Towers Run, and am simply in awe of their determination and dedication. Thanks for sharing these shots--great to see that some are still keeping our service members and our allies in mind.

This rig was Saxonburg Borough's. It was refurbished by 4-Guys in the late 1980's. Saxonburg had 2 CF's.

These two Mack's are owned by Rich Fowler from Shaler Township. He is a very big Mack enthusiast.
