It is at the former Salvo FD station, although it was a newer building than the one I visited several years ago. We headed up the beach one morning, with one goal for the day in mind, even if it took us all day to accomplish that goal. The weather was great and I was surprised at the volume of traffic on the beach, like a highway in the sand. Jon's 4-Runner was up to the task and we arrived without incident. We had been told that there would be someone on duty when we arrived, but the place was locked up with no one in sight. Disappointed, but determined, we found a shady spot and waited. While waiting, we shot one retired rig that was sitting next door. The majority has a highway straight through the middle like Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Rodanthe, Corolla, Duck, Emerald Isle, Oak Island, etc. As you get toward the northern end near Virginia, there are several spots with only sand and dirt roads. Some of the south end is only accessible by ferry, but there are paved roads on those. The Outer Banks stretches the entire length of the NC coast. Not for the Outer Banks in general, as Nic explained, but it is required to get to Carova Beach, a small village that lies about 9 miles up the beach from Corolla. There are pretty stiff fines for getting stuck on the beach without it. It is an enjoyable ride, ocean on one side, sand dunes on the other, wild horses wandering around. RE: This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 08-22-2018 Also sitting outside the station was this tanker. It was empty, but appeared as though it could be placed into service without much trouble.
