Nice shot Jeff, see I knew you still had it in ya. lol, I guess I know where im going one day this week.

Baltimore County MD - amcare38 - 12-11-2011

Perhaps this has already been explained in an earlier post......if Balto. County wanted a tandem axle vehicle why didn't they spec & purchase one instead of purchasing an apparatus & having it modified.

Baltimore County MD - Guest - 12-11-2011

amcare38,

I believe Baltimore County wanted a single axle, but the unit itself was over weight and required the additional axle.

Baltimore County MD - Guest - 12-11-2011

Long story it was a big whoops when built all is well now let's hope

Baltimore County MD - alex3610 - 12-11-2011

Wow that must have been an exspensive oops! More or less a new body and a new chassis? Anyone know what the actual GVW is of this rig now that it is on tandems?

Baltimore County MD - Guest - 12-11-2011

Actually added a third axle to original body after some modifications were done. Yes a very expensive whoops. It's taller then our tiller trucks. Still a sore subject here hope it works out

Baltimore County MD - Guest - 12-12-2011

Just announced Rosenbauer will be building new Truck 15. It will be a tiller truck drawing can be seen on DPC Emergency website. It will be a Spartan chassis.

Baltimore County MD - jma02 - 12-12-2011

Have they done a tiller before??

Baltimore County MD - Fire28 - 12-12-2011

Thats Number One^^^

Engine 57 did not get a "third axle" installed. The single rear axle was removed and a tandem axle setup was installed. A true "third axle" would be along the lines of a tag axle similar to what many dump trucks and concrete mixers are equipped with.

This page has plenty of detail photos of Engine 57 prior to the recent reconfiguration.

With regards to the new order for Truck 15, this will be the first tractor drawn aerial that is branded as a Rosenbauer. Spartan has made many tiller chassis over the years, General Safety (now Rosenbauer MN Division) has built tiller trailers before, and RK Aerials (now Rosenbauer Aerials) is not new to the business of manufacturing an aerial device for a TDA application.

Here is the press release with concept drawings for Truck 15:

Two in the back one up front isn't that three?

The vehicle now has three axles, but it did not have a "third axle" installed. That would imply that the same two axles were on it that were delivered with the vehicle, and they just put another one on it.

Jeff summed it up well...

Looks good. Sits kinda high though. I like the seat for the ladder operator.

I understand your thinking but it's a little different then you describe.

There is a huge difference between a tandem rear axle and two (2) single rear axles. The tandem axle/suspension is a complete assembly that allows the two axles to work in conjunction with each other.

To simply add an additional axle would not work out so well.

One advantage of the tandem is that the truck now has a shorter wheelbase <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
