They said it was purchased with the extra axle due to the mountains and more braking power. Branson used to own one of two Spartan/ SPI Quints. These were built for San Francisco as 75ft Quints. Thankfully the SFD union won the Quint Battle and they never entered service SFD. SFD remained 100% tillered and dry as a bone. Branson said theirs never stopped well and that is why the Central was ordered with an extra axle. This is now the spare for Truck 2's 105ft Pierce Velocity. They also said the reserve Engine 30. Spartan GT-One/ Central was very problematic and was quickly replaced by the KME Engine. Branson has always been a very nice department to visit, great guys.
