The impression I got (from when I was living in Alexandria, almost a decade ago) was that an extrication engine does only basic auto ex, such as a door pop, and that the rescue engine (then known as RE56, I believe) would handle the more complex extrications. Then again, this is about 10 years ago, so things have certainly changed.

RescueAlexandria runs extrication engiens as you see above Fairfax COunty (a different FD) only has tools on their rescue squads.

The weather hasn't been great for this trip to DC but I have managed to get a few pics. Tomorrow is suppose to monsoon so the pics I got the few hours it didn't rain on Thursday, the few hours I was free yesterday and this morning before the rain started will have to do. I did get the new Dash assigned to E-426 as they were doing pump tests. I also photographed Foam 426 their 1999 I believe E\-One Titan ARFF rig. Will post the pics later this week when I get back home. I also captured a few of Tower 430, Ambulance 430 and one of Rescue Engine 433. Rescue 426 was using one of the spare Rescues when I was at the station.

Wow, these trucks look very familiar to me.... I know a little secret about them if you ask I will tell.
Dave, you are right about the ladder rack and the X roads and Mr. Roach were not the innovators of this I give it to Alex.
Also a great benefit of the ladder rack on the driver's side, No tree damage!!

Here is one of the 5 new Pierce Dash Engines for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
Caught Engine 426 prior to it going into service at Station 426. They were testing the pump when they had a run.

1999 E\-One Titan 4x4 ARFF 1500 GPM, 750 GWT, 300 GFT-B, 500# Dry Chem
Engine 426, Rescue 426, Medic 426, EMS 405, and Foam 426 are the Guardians of the Slab. Station 426 is located slightly north and west of the Washington Capital Beltway (I495) interchange with I95 and I395 in the Springfield section of Fairfax County.

The first batch of Pierce Dash pumpers went to Engines 404, 411, 418, 421, 428, 429, 430, 431, 434 and 440. 2005 Pierce Dash pumpers 1500 GPM, 625 GWT, 40 GFT.
The second batch went to Engine 407 at the Training Academy, Engine 425, 426, 436, and 441. 2007 Pierce Dash pumpers 1500 GPM, 750 GWT, 50 GFT, driver side ladder rack.
I believe there are 4 more Dash pumpers on order for delivery later this year with specs similar to the second batch of 5.
