Seen on the news today and also www.firehouse.com has some info on it but the Pierce quantam that the Metro Airports Authority runs was in a serious crash this morning around 8:30

Overturned Firetruck Snarls Crystal City Traffic

A Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority firetruck overturned in Crystal City this morning on the way from Reagan National Airport to a fire in Alexandria.
Four firefighters were aboard the truck, said Rob Yingling, spokesman for the airports authority. Two were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, and two were transported by a medevac helicopter, Yingling said.
Arlington County spokeswoman Diana Sun said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Sun said that Arlington police were investigating. Initial reports suggested that the truck took a corner too fast, she said.
The southbound airport exit off Jefferson Davis Highway is closed. Southbound traffic on Route 1 is being diverted to 15th Street. The airport's Web site advises motorists to use the George Washington Memorial Parkway to get to the airport.
Motorists can expect extended delays on Jefferson Davis Highway, Crystal Drive and throughout the area, Arlington authorities said.
Yingling said that airport fire personnel often respond to aid calls in Alexandria and Arlington.

Rollover involving Rescue Engine 335
On Oct. 12, 2007 around 0820 hrs. Rescue Engine 161 was O.O.S. enroute to training at ACFD Logistics when Chief 302 (Metro Washington Airports Authority) came accross Channel 1 Alpha requesting the rescue assignment for Rt 1 and the 233 Bridge for Rescue Engine 335 rolled over with F/F's trapped. Being close to the area Capt. McGillin advised Arlington to hold them in service and on the run. R/E161 arrived just behind TK105 and Command quickly assigned them to the Rescue Group as no Rescue Squad had yet arrived. The crew went to work assisting with the extrication efforts. Throughout the incident R/E161's crew worked with Arlington, MWAA and Alexandria units to free the 3 trapped firefighters. The extrication took a total of 50 mins to free all 3 firefighters two of wich were transported via helicopter to nearby hospitals. Thankfully all 4 firefighters transported had non-life threatning injuries. Deputy Chief 302 had Command. Numerous other Command officers from the surrounding areas where also on scene.

I was working at MedSTAR when 2 of the firefighters came in. They were relased the same day with very minor injuries.

Before we went on our four day we removed some lettering off of Engine 327 and then used compound to blend the area in, it looked so good we decided to detail it when we came back in. We spent all day cleaning the engine top to bottom, this is the first time we had a chance since we got it back from Dulles.
While at Dulles it was subjected to the mud out there from the construction and was not taken care of. Here is what she looked like after 8 hours of compounding, waxing, polishing and painting. Thanks ARFF for the update on operations at National. Nice to see Engine 327. Are you able to fit the extrication equipment on it? Any news on a permanent replacement for the Rescue Engine?

It has a very small compliment of extrication tools, enough to complete a door pop and roof removal. We also have the airbags on it and the junk yard dog rescue struts.
The apparatus committee has been formed and has had two meetings (I think). I have also heard that there is approved funding to replace Engine 327, since it is due for replacement . <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> I wish they would refurb it...we always liked it a lot better than the Quantum. Hopefully Tuesday will bring good weather, if so I will get some pics of our new Battalions buggy.
