Ex Topeka, Kansas Reserve Aerial 1 at the drill yard. Now for sale at a truck lot. This rig spent most of it career at Aerial 8 when it was front line and nick named the "Big Bannana".
1980 Pierce Arrow/ LTI 100ft no pump or tank
This was the last remaining yellow apparatus on the Topeka Fire Department. They repainted the yellow Engines Red in the early 1990's. Topeka only used yellow for a very short time 1977ish-1983ish before returning to red. Topeka operates two Aerials 5,8 and Four City Service Truck Companies at 3,9,10,11. All Aerials and Trucks are dry no water. The union has held strong and fought the chief on Quints in recent years <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> . Topeka operates twelve engines. The new Aerial 1 is a 1995 E\-One 95ft Tower from Aerial 5. It is a glider kit of a 1976 Oshkosh Pierce Aerial.This old Pierce was wellworn and in recent time the ladder was not operational (notice it is not retracted fully). This rig logged many hours as a reserve on the streets because Aerial 5 and 8 were always in the shop being repaired.

The units are equipped with a hydraulically driven portable transfer pump that produces over 600 gpm. To get that capacity the unit had a sleeve on the front intake, the side intake and the portable transfer pump was coming into the rear intake. These pumpers are plumbed to get allot of water into and out of them allowing for these increased flows.
Attached is an image depicting the pump deployed into a pool, it shows the pump and all the needed connections, it is a very nice package that is very easily deployed.

That the one off the squad or are the wagons equipped with one as well?

Both of the New Pierce Dash Engines (Engine 51 and 52) as well as the counties new Pierce Quantum Engine (Engine 111) are equipped with the second generation of the Hydraullic Water Pump. They are smaller, lighter, and more efficient than the Hydraullic Water Pump on Rescue Squad 5 (The original).
Attached is an image showing them stored in the compartment on the new Pierce Dash's.

That is very interesting. I remember all of the nay sayers when the squad showed up with it's pump and then it was used successfully. Thanks for that shot.

1997 Pierce Saber emergency purchase to replace a wrecked 1993 or 94ish Central States/Freight-Liner that was one of two. This was their first Black over Red and the first in the KC Metro.
It has belonged to the same fire department it entire career but the department name has changed three times. So here goes:
Emergency Purchased for South Johnson County Volunteer Fire and Rescue INC. became Johnson County Rural Fire District Two became Johnson County Fire District Two and should not be confused with Consolidated Fire District Two of North East Johnson County.
