Micah,

In all honesty, I am not sure. The Imperials ended up at quite a few stations throughout their careers, with some stations at one point operating two at the same house. Same story for the Imperials when they were rehabed....they ended up at numerous stations.

Here is what I know. Two were received initially followed shortly thereafter by three more. The first two were assigned to Station 11 and Station 22. I have older photos of Imperials at those stations. The remaining three were to be assigned to some of the newer stations that were to be built. Until that time, I believe they were assigned to stations that did not operate a second engine (it was common at that time for the engine companies being 2 piece units). From there, I am not sure.

Mike Sanders

The Imperials ended up at a variety of fire houses across the county, and some stations even ran two of them at one time.

[/quote]

When first delivererd, the Imperials were assigned to Penn Daw (11), Springfield (22), Edsall Road (26), West Springfield (27) and Seven Corners (28).......for a while before 26 opened up, Penn Daw ran theirs and 26's....not sure who ran 27's or 28's prior to their openings..

I caught this up at the Pierce plant back in 1997

of the Burke VA Quint 14 after being in the apparatus

bay when the rescue truck caught fire.

Thanks for the shots of Burke, John. The Box from that squad was later placed on a Quantum chassis and is still in service today as Rescue Squad 14. I personally liked the old chassis better...

I did some research on the Fairfax Imperial wagons from some early versions of area rosters from The Wagon Pipe Newsletter and checking the dates on some of my slides. I believe that the first assignments of these units were Wagon 11 (s/n 782), Engine 11 (s/n 311), Engine 22 (s/n 781), Engine 26 (s/n 304) and Engine 27 (s/n 307). After delivery of the 1975 Seagrave wagons shop number 307 was assigned to the Clifton station.

Unfortunately at that time I was not recording serial numbers but I can pass along that the five Imperial wagons had serial numbers 1-584-A thru 1-584-E. By the time that the units were re-bodied by E\-One the Imperial numbers had been removed from the cab and E\-One serial numbers were assigned. Mike is correct that most of these units were well traveled around Fairfax and I think were the last wagons delivered with manual transmissions.

Tom,

The 1975 Seagrave's were stick shifts. Clifton got their Imperial to repalce the Ford/Young which had a very hard time getting up the hill on Clifton Rd. heading toward Lee Hwy. and Henderson Rd.

At 3am this morning the roof over the apparatus bay at FFX County Station 410 on Columbia Pike in the Baileys Crossroads section of the County collapsed due to the weight of all the snow from this weekends snow storm. All 18 firefighters are uninjured, however, the roof is now resting on Engine 410 and Ladder 410.

After the collapse they began checking roofs at other stations and they found sagging in the roof at Station 408 just down Columbia Pike in the Annandale section of the County.

For whatever reason the rear chevrons on these new rigs don't bother me as much as others I have seen...

AND they have roto-rays! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/luxhello.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Luxhello' />

I agree the chevron does not look that bad. Thanks for posting.

Well Tim, the roof is laying on top of the Engine and Truck, I am sure there is going to be some damage.

With the roof laying on the apparatus, I expect a lot of damage.

I had not been to Singer's in quite some time but managed to stop by last week and Merrifield's Pierce Dash midmount was in the yard.

Another Fairfax truck was McLean's Pierce Dash rear mount.

And they look like they're PAR46 (larger lamps), not the PAR36 (smaller, often LED, lamps). I like!

Lots of damage. Dave Statter has posted a report he did for Channel 9...see it here...

http://statter911.com/tag/station-206/

Bad news, structural issues at Alexandria Station 206 have led to that station being closed. As Dave points out this leaves a big coverage gap in a very dense portion of Alexandria and Fairfax County.

I like how they have an LED warning lamp on the front, facing towards the 45 degree off axis area (below the turn signal). In my opinion, that's an area that has been somewhat lacking in coverage in the past.

Fairfax County VA - maxim - 02-09-2010

Somewhat irelevant, but Station 603 in Middleburg has been condemed and repairs are underway before round 5 or 6 or something like that of snow comes this afternoon

Fairfax County VA - Guest - 02-10-2010

The EMS units at FS410 were had little to no damage. the truck and engine is another story, which i have no details on except that assuming there isn't any other serious damage to the truck the only thing that will need mending is the areial. M410 will run out of a arlington house for the time being. A reserve engine and an ambulance will run out of tents in front of FS410 for now. The volunteers and the county have been working hard together to make sure the station is shored and repairs start in the near future(after the snow is done messing everything up).

On a side note 421 caught a 4 alarm fire the other day with multiple maydays. Everyone to my knowledge is ok.

The fireground audio up through the mayday is available on Statter911.com from the fire in 21's area.
