The first American LaFrance Aero Chief delivered was this 1963 International VCO-206 with a 70' Strato-Tower boom. Painted red, it served Rome, GA until 1982. During the lime craze of the 70's, it was repainted lime, as was the entire Rome fleet. When Rome got their new Sutphen tower in 1982, the Aero Chief was sold to Bartow County, GA as their first aerial. A few years later, it returned to red paint. It was again replaced by a Sutphen tower that was purchased used from Orlando, FL around 1990 and traded in to the local Sutphen dealer. Current whereabouts unknown.

This is the fourth Aero Chief, also a 70' model, but this has the ALF boom. Only the first two Aero Chief rigs had the Strato-Tower boom. This one was delivered to Greece Ridge, NY in 1964, then sold to Odenton, MD, then to an unknown FD in South Carolina, then to Cartersville, GA where this photo was taken. It was traded in on a Pierce 50' Telesqurt in 1995.
