Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 03-28-2008 An interesting configuration on the front of Truck 17... Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 03-28-2008 And to round out this trip I was able to get several photographs from Chesterfield County, Virginia. I was not far from the Chesterfield County airport and knew the county operates Station 15 from there. Engine 15 is a 2004 Pierce Enforcer 1250/700/40 with job number 15734. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - GA_Dave - 03-28-2008 Quote:Prior to service at Namozine, this E-One ladder truck was painted black over red. It previously ran in Schaumburg, Illinois. SO#8006 Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 03-28-2008 The county's foam unit also is housed at Station 15. The guys at Station 15 moved this crash truck around back to the helipad for photos. I thought it was kind of unique to have a helipad behind the fire station when the airport is across the street. Foam 15 1988 Oshkosh P-19 1000/1000/130 500 # Halon 500 gpm roof turret 250 gpm bumper turret I was told Chesterfield received this crash truck after adding on to a military contract. Unfortunately, Station 15 also has a larger Pierce Quantum HAZMAT. Right after photographing Foam 15, the station was dispatched second due on a house fire, leaving the station empty. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 03-28-2008 and last from this trip.... My GPS was telling me that the Chesterfield Training Center was not far from Station 15. I made a quick drive to find this 2000 Pierce Dash 103' aerial sitting at the training center. I was unable to get a Pierce job number on this one....any help is appreciated. That's it for now. Hope you enjoyed the photographs and I am looking forward to the opportunity of adding additional photos in the near future. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Roto-Ray - 03-28-2008 Mike, great to see some photos from my neck of the Commonwealth! Leave to it me to interrupt you on the cell phone while you were shooting Hanover Engine 3. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Just a few notes:

Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA
Mike I thought I had the job # but can't find it. I know Mr. Jerry has it. CFD Tk12 by the way is an all steer. It had to be a 103 footer to get it in the house. We took Quint 10's 105 down there one day for Dick and to CFD see it and operate and had it all but 2 feet in the house. Of course RFD's rides has extended front bumpers. It still is tight for TK12 to get in the house. A modified connector on the rear helps and still they have hit the back wall!! Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 03-29-2008 in regards to Engine 4 at Namozine (Dinwiddie County)....Is that an Intake at the top of the grille? I can't quite make out what it is. Thanks!! I can't quite make out what it is. Thanks!!
Nope, it's a Mars 888 recessed in the grill, something you don't see much on the modern apparatus. Most of them today are pedestal mounted. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 03-29-2008 I received word today that a department in Virginia just recently purchased a 1989 Pierce/Lance from the Prince Frederick V.F.D. from up here in my neck of the woods. I have some phone calls in to find out who. If anyone hears please let me know. I want to keep track of where this rig goes. It's one of four that was purchased up here, two at La Plata, ours here in Mechanicsville and Prince Frederick's. Thanks! Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - foghog333 - 03-29-2008 Mike: Truck 12 from Chesterfield carries Pierce serial number 10925. This unit replaced a unique open cab Peter Pirsch 100 foot rear mount ladder that was acquired in 1975. AFAIK, it hasn't left Maryland yet. Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Andrew2340 - 03-29-2008 Awesome pics Mike! I can't believe you actually found two old Burke County, NC trucks! I never got the chance to shoot or even see Morganton's old Sutphen platform. And seeing how its way up in West Virginia, near Ohio, I doubt I ever get to shoot it now. Triple Community's old tanker is an amazing rig. They traded it into Slagle's in South Boston, VA for a Freightliner/KME tanker they purchased new. That truck stayed up at Slagle's for a long time and actually I took a picture of it through the window of the paint booth when I visited Slagle's back in 2004. I wondered where it finally got sold to. I'm gonna have to make it over to King William sometime to see that rig again! Chesterfield had a couple of unique Pirsch ladder trucks. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Roto-Ray - 03-29-2008 Because Mike ended his latest round with Chesterfield, I though that I might add a couple of other Chesterfield rigs too. I had about an hour to kill today, so I went to Chesterfield and shot a couple of rigs before they left their current assignments. I'm embarrassed to even post these, as I didn't realize when I was shooting today that I'd left all my camera settings in manual for some low-light shots I took last night. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/machinegun.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Arrgh! That's the reason that even after Photoshop, they still have a grainy look to them. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Anyhoo, first up is the Reserve Truck, a 1987 Mack CF/Aerialscope 75' model. Prior to being the reserve truck, it ran as Truck 37 from Station 3 in the southern end of the county. Chesterfield has had a number of Scopes, but within the next few months, they'll all be gone, including this one. The department is running out of qualified Scope operators, so when a new Dash platform and a used Quantum aerial arrive in a couple of months, the last two Aerialscopes will be disposed of. My volly county is strongly considering purchasing one of them, a 95-footer, and will meet with Chesterfield officials about this in a couple of weeks. Shot in front of Station 9: Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Roto-Ray - 03-29-2008 Immediately south of Station 9 is Station 2. Station 2 used to be a used fire truck mall, as they housed many reserve rigs here. Now, the station houses Engine Company 2, one reserve engine (1991 Mack CF/Grumman, ex Engine 11), and the Life Safety House for the youngun's. Engine 2 is one of the four original Pierce Quantums that the county purchased in 1997. They were originally assigned to Engine 34, Engine 43 (reassigned to Engine 204), Engine 73 (reassigned to Engine 2), and Engine 143 (reassigned to Engine 9). Chesterfield changed their numbering scheme a couple of years ago, hence what appears to be strange numbers. The individual stations do the lettering on the grills, so many of them have a very different look to them. Engine 2 will be replaced with one of six 2008 Pierce Enforcers that will be delivered later this month, and the Quantum will enter the reserve fleet. Hope you enjoyed, even if I'm still ticked off at my camera settings. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 03-30-2008 |
